I recently installed a ready remote 24927 starter kit. I have the antenna mounted behind my rearview mirror in the position recommended by the manual. I'm getting crap for range though. Some times I can start my car from 25 feet away, other times I have to be right next to it. I can't get anything greater than about 25 feet.

So I was thinking about playing with the antenna module. Was thinking I could remove the antenna part and replace it with a wire I could run to the outside. Has anyone done something like this before?

Sometimes the tint at the top of the windshield will affect range...Normally you want to stretch the antenna wire ,from brain to antenna,so that it is not just bunched up and tucked somewhere...! Pay attention to the L.E.D. on the remote...Does it dim during these short range mis-haps...It might be worthwhile to replace the battery in the remote...Also pay attention that nothing is loose in the remote...Didthe unit come w/ more then 1 remote...? Is that the unit where the antenna plug is an rca...That plugs into brain...? We wont touch those ready remotes...Dont think the replacing of the antenna w/ a wire is going to help...You might look funny doing this ,but when it is getting bad range...Put the remote up to your chin...Then do a nice solid press on the remote...Did it respond...?

Could you be parked near a transmitting antenna array for local emergency services. There's a classic story from some years ago when they launched the Voyager in the UK. They took the journalists to Dover Harbour and gave them tickets to load the vehicles on to the ferry (forget the tunnel, you come out each end with loads of missed calls) and invade France. Well guess what, none of the remotes worked! Someone at Chrysler didn't do their research. Dover Harbour radar controls the English Channel, the world's most busy waterway, with the world's most powerful none military radar broadcasting at 400mhz . I'm sure you can work out the rest.

that would make it easy to explain, but i get bad clicker reception everywhere

do you think extending the antenna cable several more feet and running it throughout the car would help?

I'm going to take a look at the cable wiring again. i'll throw the cable on top of the dash and see if my range increases a lot and then worry about hiding it. i'll let you guys know...

ok I pulled everything out and restrung it. but this time I ran it along the trim to the driver side far back window and stuck the antenna there

works like a champ now. I have line of sight start for at least 30 feet. havent tested much more
