Hey guys/gals... well, let me start by saying i know nothing of security systems... having said that, i had my car into a mechanic they uninstalled the alarm/remote starter when they were working on it... needless to say now the theft light stays on and the power locks lock/unlock when i'm driving, i also believe the signals flash at the same time as well... and the seat belt light stayed on for a bit but it's off now... car starts and drives fine tho?

I plugged all the wiring back where it belongs in both brains and no difference... the key also will get stuck in the ignition and it won't let go, not sure if it's related or if it's the tumblers... everything was fine prior to the mechanic visit, however i did let the car sit for 2mths and the battery died...

not sure if someone can shed some light on the problem?

it's a '96 Grand Am and it's an avital alarm (not sure on the model # tho)

thanks for any/all help!!

Richard

So it was fixed by the mechanic then sat for 2 months...? It could be the ignition switch going bad...I know if the power/battery is dis-connected w/ the key in the ON position...It will not let key go back to OFF position...! What do you mean by "the signals flash at the same time"...? What did you take your car in for...NO START...? Why did they dis-connect the alarm/rs...? Is it not there resposibility to re-install...? Aftermarket stuff is always a mechanics first thing to blame...! All this was there after mechanics visit...Or after the car sat...?

Tommy... the car sat for 2mths because of a coolant leak, the battery died in the mean time. When it was restarted the ignition wouldn't let go of the key... the alarm was pulled because it kept going off at the shop, because they had to connect/disconnect the battery all the time because the key was stuck in the 'on' position...

i managed to get the theft light off, now the seat belt light flashes when the car is in 1st gear.. either under acceleration or braking, every time the car hits first gear the light flashes and the locks unlock...

If it wasn't doing this prior to the mechanic working on it, return the vehicle to them. If these were exsisting issues good luck, grand am's are electronic nightmares.
