Found a third wire not listed in most wiring lists for the door locks of this GM Truck.
Vehicle. 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 2500. Alarm System AudioVox APS 997A 3 wire Positive door lock. ( Two Step Locks) I have been looking at few posts here and have compared some diagrams with several that I have and one from GM all seem correct for the most part. I noticed that most diagrams list the Power Unlock White, and the Power Lock Lt. Blue . They are both Positive Switches I tested both with my Fluke meter all seems ok for that part and are positive. Now I did find a post for a 2001 Tahoe on the site that is a little different, in that it listed a third wire located at the BCM module the wire is light green located at Pin A-4 in the Lt Blue block. it's the only wiring list I seen with this third wire mentioned. I did test this LT-Green wire . The wire has a (-) Negative pulse to it. I assume for the Unlock of drivers and all other doors in this truck. I did test all unlock switches front and rear with the remote and mechanical switches on all the doors. The Lt-Green wire does trip a negative pulse on the unlock. But it was listed as the driver’s door priority unlock in the list ? Now My question. Is the Lt- Green unlock wire the 2nd step unlock that is used by the factory relays to unlock the driver door first then all other doors 2nd ? My alarm is a AudioVox 997A. it’s unlock wires are Green Positive (+) Lock, Red Positive(+) Unlock, and there is a third wire that is Red\Black with a (-) Pulse of 300ma. The red\black is used for the 2nd stage of the unlock according to the Manual and requires a relay. Next question. Since that Lt-Green Unlock wire in the BCM is also a Negative pulse could I use the AudioVox Red\Black (-) pulse for that wire i.e. to pulse it for the 2nd stage unlock ? with out using a relay ? If not I then I guess I must wire in a relay to the factory unlock motor to invert the output for the 2nd stage unlock process right ? Not a big deal though. Last question. Where to get the door lock\unlock from. The BCM? I did find another location , but not in the kick panel like other have said here. But just above it on the opposite side I removed a small dash panel and there is a white and blue wire there also. I tested both of them. They are for the door lock\unlock switches . Easy to get at . Could I wire up the Door lock\unlock here, instead of at the BCM? I hope I explained all this correctly. ( from the wiring list sheet )
I would like to add that this wire also pluses negitive when using the factory remote also. I doulbe checked this wire again with more expensive fluke meter and looked at the wave charts of the circuit. It does check with the switches and remote. This is located in Pin A-4 of the Light blue plug at the BCM on my 2001 Suburban. Posted By: Chris Luongo Date Posted: November 06, 2009 at 12:37 PM The light green is to disarm the factory alarm.
You do want driver's-priority unlocking, correct? If so, you'll actually need TWO extra relays, because the Audiovox's second-unlock wire is negative trigger only. Do this: 1. Audiovox BLACK/ blue "pulse before start:" Connect to Tahoe's light green disarm wire. (While not well stated in the manual, this wire also makes a pulse when unlocking.....your Audiovox system will disarm the Tahoe alarm when unlocking, even when not using remote start.) 2. Audiovox green, positive lock: Connect to Tahoe's blue lock wire. 3. Audiovox red, positive unlock: Configure relay as follows: 85: red from Audiovox 86: ground 87: FUSED 12 volts positive ----cut Tahoe's "unlock motor" wire in half---- 87a: unlock motor, BCM side 30: unlock motor, car side Audiovox RED / black, second unlock. Configure relay as follows: 86: RED / black from Audiovox 87, 85: FUSED constant power 87a: no connection 30: connect to Tahoe's white positive unlock wire. NOTE: Default out-of-the-box, the RED / black does nothing. Must go into programming and turn "2nd step unlock" to "on." Posted By: stevenje98 Date Posted: November 06, 2009 at 4:06 PM the wire list i posted is for the 01 Tahoe. I have the 2001 suburban. Im using the direct wire list that I posted below. The directed list has no mention of the lt-green wire at pin A-4 lt blue plug. But the Tahoe list does. and my truck has this Lt- Green wire.
The LT-Green wire I tested is not the factory disarm. The factory disarm in my 01 suburban is Lt- Green Pin B-3 at the( purple plug.) Im just wondering what this LT -green does, since it functions as unlock. If it is driver priority. that mean theres a drivers priority only relay. right? which would mean I would only need to wire one more relay for the unlock and not two ? ( there is two relays in the truck that i found. I was thinking also I need two relays like you mentioned. then I ran into this LT Green Wire at A-4, but its not the Disarm. It unlocks all doors with (-) pulse. here is the wire list to the 2001 suburban from directed. This is the one Im using and is the most accurate of all lists, even the GM list. I for sure , need the 2 step locks though. thanks for the diagram on the relays. I drew my circuits last night and they match yours. so I guess I'm ok with that part. Im just wondering what do do with this LT- Green wire at pin 4 in the lt blue plug that unlocks everything. ? Posted By: mikvot Date Posted: November 06, 2009 at 5:39 PM I'm pretty sure the light green you are talking about is drivers door unlock only. It is the same color as the disarm wire, but in a different plug to the left of the plug that contains the disarm wire.
Posted By: stevenje98 Date Posted: November 06, 2009 at 6:01 PM that makes much more sense to me..
So I should just leave this wire alone, and just add the two additional relays mentioned above by chris for the driver's-priority unlock ? would it make any difference if I got the power for the additional lock\unlock relays and other devices if needed ( from my 2nd battery in the truck ? the 2nd battery is hooked up to an additional fuse panel I installed. Posted By: Chris Luongo Date Posted: November 07, 2009 at 11:58 AM Here's what happens with that light green wire:
When you turn the key once in the driver's door, you're mechanically unlocking only the driver's door, and electrically pulsing the light green wire, which disarms the factory alarm. I'm not 100% sure because I don't own one of these cars, but I beleive that if you turn the key in the door twice, and you're of course sending a second pulse on the light green wire.....I believe that electrically unlocks the other doors to let your passengers get in. In short: As far as driver's-priority unlocking, the light green does the exact oppositve of what you want.....it's not going to help you get the driver's door open first. P.S. Tahoes, Suburbans, Escalades, Silverados.....all the same. If you find a wiring sheet for any of these cars that you think is accurate, it should be OK to use it. If memory serves, the disarm really is in a purple plug. The plug all the way to right on the BCM. Posted By: mikvot Date Posted: November 07, 2009 at 6:30 PM You are right about the disarm wire Chris, but there is also another light green in the bcm that will pulse (-) when the unlock button on the door is pressed. The disarm, as you you mentioned is in the far right purple plug in the bcm. The light green he is talking about is in a different plug. Some old info I have, lists it as drivers unlock, Although I have NEVER verified that it will unlock the drivers door, I do know it will pulse with the door lock switch. Lt. green(-) in B.C.M. in BLUE connector, bottom row pulses (-) whenever doors are unlocked by switches. disarm Lt. green(-) in B.C.M. in violet connector Posted By: stevenje98 Date Posted: November 30, 2009 at 2:20 AM I hooked up all my door triggers and used the relays for the 2 step unlock. In the process I noticed that the cargo doors in my suburban were not armed at all. I have a Driver’s door trigger and Passengers door trigger for the rest of the doors, i.e. Front passenger , and two rear passenger doors. The two rear cargo doors aka, barn doors were not active. So I found the trigger to the barn doors and tied it into the 2nd door trigger for all passenger doors with diodes. Now, I get the message in my factory information center “cargo door open” when I open any of the doors. Drivers, and Passenger doors.
Did I do this right ? I don’t mind, because none of the doors in this 2001 Suburban had no door warnings at all of being open while the truck was running, or even a “ door Ajar” message . Should I have tied rear cargo doors into the trunk trigger? I would like to keep like this though for safety reasons If can. Ie. I have no door open warnings. Why gm did this I'll never know. I have not tested the Audiovox prestige 997A powered up yet. I’m still working on adding an additional 12GA power wire from my 2nd full size battery to power the additional sensors. Glass -break and Shock. Which brings me to another question. Should I be using a two stage radar sensor for a truck this large and ditch the additional shock sensor and glass break?. From what I read on the board here it seems there are lots of false triggers with radar. I'm not sure which to install I'm on the fence about this radar stuff. I do have an instant trigger for zone1. I figured I would hook up the glass sensor or radar there. I don’t know If I can hook up the additional shock sensor to that trigger wire because I don’t know if it will be shunted at remote startup. Though the Audiovox APS997A does have a wire that will shunt devices that are not plugged into the unit;basically meant for factory devices. Should I just wire the additional shock sensor to the shock sensor port and put some diodes in? does the 997A require diodes for an additional shock sensor to the port. Thanks for all the help so far. Luv this site. |
