ok the manual gives 2 different options here. in a 1995 fleetwood. has 1 coil. the manual says should test between 1v and 6v. i have 4 wires RED / white WHITE/ black   white BLACK/ white. all diagrams list 3 wires to chose from, PURPLE / black WHITE/ black or white. i tested all and none test between 1v to 6v. then i read something on here and it says hook it to the negative side of the coil.

now im confused do i want this wire to see negative or 1v-6v

if you are grabbing the tach at the coils just get odd color one out of the four. if there are 4 wires, compare the wires between 2 coils and one color out of the four will be different on each one, and that's the one you want. so that means 3 wires will have the same color on each one of the coil and 1 wire will be a different color.

Have you set your meter to DC Volts and also AC Volts.  The signal is a pulsed DC Voltage, but depending on your meter it may or may not trigger on the DC Volts setting.  It should give you a reading on one of the 2 settings.

your just reading off the wire diagram posted on this site. there is no multicoil pack on a lt1 in the 93-96 fleetwoods. its 1 coil with a 4 wire plug. there is no PURPLE / white wire, in the end turns out i had a bad connection and it is the white wire. solid white, not the WHITE/ black

no i wasnt reading off the diagram here! i have my own notes that showed a PURPLE / white or a white on some vehicles, since you described the white wire not working i had assumed you had already verified your connections, and i was giving you an alternative
