Hello everyone, Im trying to install a remote car starter in a 2002 Toyota corolla. The vehicle diagram for the 2000 corolla is the same. Below is the list of the lock and unlock wires.
Door Lock Light Blue/White(-) Driver's Kick
Door Unlock Blue / YELLOW (-) And White, Diode Isolate
I have never ever used a diode and being that this will be my first time I would really appreciate the help on where to find one (some say radio shack) and what type of diode do i need for the unlock wire. Will i need 2 of them and connect one to the blue / YELLOW and the other to the white and then connect them as one? How will i know what side to put them on? Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Yes to Radio Shack, 1N4004, wired in a Y pattern as you suggested, bands towards alarm.

I do not know which diode Radio Shack stocks. You can use anything between a 1N4001 and 1N4007. They will have one of them in stock.

Just out of curiosity but when the diodes are involved. Are these the only ones everyone uses or do they use any other ones too?

Mainly these which handle 1amp, but I also use 1N54xx series which handle 3 amps for certain European lighting requirements.

No! no Y pattern, Each diode inline to the negative trigger lock and unlock wires respectively, as howard said bands towards alarm!

Darren read what he said in his post, door UNLOCK blue / YELLOW AND white, diode isolate, so it is a Y connector. OK we haven't discussed Y for a year or so have we? Unless the poster has it wrong.

since your using 1 output from your system to trigger 2 items you are using the diodes to prevent them from back feeding to eachother.
as suggested wire them in a y pattern with the stripe side of both dodes going to your unlock output wire from your alarm and then 1 non stripe side of diode to the white wire and the other non striped diode side to the blue / YELLOW

I didn't catch that when i first read howie! In my defense though, i didn't notice it, because, in that gen corolla I use that same, blue/yelow and blue/white for lock/unlock trigger, never used the white though!
