not to sound degrading or anything

but

if you are asking questions like this I would take it to a qualified shop and have them do it

I understand what you mean, i can do this, i just need to study a bit.

here:

im getting a viper 5701 alarm/remote start with a back up battery, tilt sensor... what kind of backup battery should i get? what kind of tilt sensor should i get? Also is there anything i would need for the viper 5701 to make my installation any smoother??

well first off, the DEI tilt sensor is a good choice, backup battery I am not to sure off

since it is an 04 chevy trailblazer you will need a bypass module, Idatalink makes one that will control locks, oem alarm, trunk pin and front doors for the alarm

once you get this piece and the truck apart we can help you more

Posted By: tedmond
Date Posted: December 21, 2009 at 7:08 AM

if you get the idatalink part, it will help you out alot as your not running as many wires.

1) get a wiring diagram of the car
2) bench prep your alarm/rs and snip off anything you dont need.
3) rip your car apart as you will need to get to the kick panel and fuse boxes, even engine bay for tach. this is where a DMM becomes your best friend. so get a good one.
4) wire up remote start portion, install bypass/program. attempt to remote start and if it works move onto the alarm portion
5) test alarm, then wrap all connections and tuck away.

and the bypass module (idatalink part, which 1??), dei tilt sensor (DEI 507M??) . can be used, should be used, with the viper 5701 alarm/remote start. remember this is what alarm/remote start, im going to be installing. anything else???

Thank you All..

If I were you I would ONLY start with the bare essentials.  IF you get the system installed you can go back and add stuff later.  It won't be as clean as an installation, but let's be real here, no ones first installation is clean anyway.

I typically do things backwards from tedmond - I start with the alarm portion first and do the remote start portion second.  I don't think it really matters though.

Also as tedmond mentioned use a volt meter and verify EVERY wire before making any connections.

The only products you "need" are the alarm/remote start and the security bypass.  You do NOT need a battery backup or any other sensors.  Again, concentrate on just getting the thing installed and working before you complicate the situation by adding accessories.

ok, toolz...check. viper 5701 alarm/remote start..havent ordered it yet. for the security bypass, would a GM Data Immobilizer Bypass work?? if not, what GM bypass works? as for the Sundries, relays, diodes various crimp connectors, where about can i pick some up ad how many would i use..???

Thank You All...

For the bypass module get the idatalink ads-al-ca, you will need this one because it is the only module for chevy that you can flash with the DBI firmware

like what was mentioned above, stick to geting the essentials working first, worry about the tilt sensor and backup battery last

to be honest with some of these questions I would really consider taking it to a shop to get this done, you don't want a costly trip to the dealer

Sorry Ted, I'm with Kevin on this one, I'm also very much with 05gt, you will save yourself an awful lot of trouble taking it to a pro, but if you want to go ahead, be my guest WEhave no legal liabilities here.
Again I suggest leaving the sensor(s) to last in fact the 507m requires careful setting up, you'll probably have to change it's position at least once,I'd recommend a 508d dual zone prox instead. You will need the diodes for the locks, 1N4004 from radio shack unless the by-pass handles that. I can see this is going to be the biggest transatlantic co-operation effort since Gulf War ll

Posted By: 05gt

you will need 1 relay, this will be used to power the 2nd accessory wire in the vehicle

you will need 2 diodes, these will be ised for the 2 rear doors as the idatalink module will not cover these

Posted By: djbdub
Date Posted: December 21, 2009 at 11:11 PM

1 relay......where do i go about getting the right one, do you have a link, to point me to the corect one???

as for the 2 diodes for the rear windows, can i get those at radio shack? if so What kind should i use for the rear windows for this 04 tb??

Thank You All..

Posted By: 05gt

the diodes are for the rear doors not the rear windows, they are general 1 amp diodes, and yes you should be able to get them at radio shack

diodes are just 1amp and you will often see it as 1N400x where x can be any number,

the relay you need is a 30/40 amp automotive SPDT relay. this can also be picked up at radioshack but if you head to a local car shop, they should be able to sell it for 5bucks.

Out of curiosity, where in Ohio are you?  If you are close by I would be willing to donate a little of my time to HELP you (not interested in doing it for you).  I also have all the tools, relays (literally 100s of them, ask Howie), diodes, resistors, etc that you could ever need.  I'm in the Dayton area.

Have you looked at your vehicle wiring?  Why do you think you have 2 (-) door triggers and 2 (+) door triggers?  I have never seen a vehicle that had both (+) and (-) door triggers.

When you put the key in the ignition switch, the key sense wire will go to ground.  You do not need to turn the key, just place it in the cylinder and test the wires.

You are to be testing the wires that are in question so you can determine which one is the right wire.  Refer to your notes from tech school.

Posted By: tedmond
Date Posted: December 27, 2009 at 2:01 PM

howie take a break from this thread before you pop a vein from stress ahah.

testing key sense, red probe to constant 12v, black to keysense wire that you will be testing. set the meter to 20vdc. meter will read 0v, and once a key is slightly inserted into the barrel, your meter will now read 11-13vdc

The thing about "tech guides" is that they are just that - guides.  You can NOT rely on them and you MUST VERIFY EVERY WIRE with your volt meter.  Due to different trim levels and many other variables sometimes wires are different colors, or sometimes the information just isn't accurate (or sometimes there are >5 wires of the same color in the same location).  The sheets are something to give you a starting point.  If you don't verify the wiring and hook something up incorrectly you can damage the vehicle or the product (worst case) or the system simply won't work correctly and you'll have no idea where to start troubleshooting because you never verified the wires in the first place.
