I had my compustar SSA installed for sometime now and noticed that in really cold mornings when i try to remote start it will crank continuously and never start. When looking at the dash board it is not seeing the transponder bypass module active because the key light indicator is flashing. It is either the bypass module or the output from my remote start is not activating the bypass module. Is it possible that the cold weather is affecting the bypass module? If so, is it possible to temporary bypass the transponder system in my 2005 honda accord during the winter and then enable it after the cold weather? Thanks.

Yes extreme temps have adverse effects on key in box bypasses, best bet would be to get a vehicle specific bypass! I think it's either Chris or Mike who have a method you can try with freezing the key or something, not sure if memory serves right, maybe they'll chime in!

There is no way to bypass this that I am aware of. Besides, permanently bypassing the anti-theft would leave your car vulnerable.
Did you install the unit yourself or did you have a shop do it?
What was used to bypass the transponder? Did they use a data module or did you lose a key? If you lost a key simply relocating the ring around the key cylinder might help.
If you put it in yourself and used a data module did you use crimp connectors or did you solder?
If you paid to have it installed, it is probably under warranty. Most shops give a lifetime warranty on the installation labor. ------------- Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

As far as freezing a key goes - I've done that to troubleshoot intermittently non-working bypasses with a key in them. Actually just put the entire bypass in the freezer overnight with key and all, to simulate where the antenna would need to be on a really cold day to work properly.
These days I just use data modules instead when possible...saves all the trouble of dealing with that stuff.

1. When you had the installation done, what was used for a bypass? Or, if you don't know a part number, do you remember if you had to give them one of your spare keys to do the installation?
2. Does the place that installed it warranty their work? They should. They may ask you to leave the car with them overnight so it can get cold so they can see it fail.

I laugh when I hear people say they will put antenna's or keys into the freezer to simulate cold weather. The reason is that a freezer will only go down to about -10 C and " cold weather " problems start at about -25 to -30 C. It's not been so warm this year so far! Though compared to Manitoba 2 weeks of snow every day and always below 32F is probably balmy.

Yes, i did the installation myself. I had it installed about 3 years now and no problems. I used a universal bypass module that requires a key, and i dont remember the brand i used. This has only happened to me twice this year on extremely cold mornings, other than that it never happened. I'll keep an eye on the temperature to see if it really is the transponder. Thanks for all your inputs. !!!
