Winter is aproaching and I just got myself a 2007 nissan sentra. Its the base model without power windows or cruise control. I dont see any red lights on the dash or windshield for immobilser. But I need to fit in a remote start. I am not so familiar with electronics but I wanted to fit it in myself (stingy me) so I was wondering if anyone out there can help me with a wiring diagram and an easy step-by-step guide to fitting it in. Do I need the bypass thingy as well.

Thanks guys

Saving some cash is important but installing a Remote Start system into a car, if done incorrectly, can de hazardous to the car.

For this project you should have a set of automotive tools that will be necessary to disassemble the cars lower dash and steering column covers.  Also a Digital Muiti Meter to locate and verify all the wires that the Remote Start system will connect to.  A soldering gun / iron, solder, diagonal cutters, electric tape are also required.

Here is a link to Bulldog Security web site :  https://www.bulldogsecurity.com/Default.aspx  They have a wiring guide for your car.  They also have a remote starter install video in the "Installation Manuals"  section.  The video will give you a brief and generic idea of the install process.  ( They make it look easy to sell more remote start systems. Think SlapChop commercial.)

Here is a link to an install guide for a Ready Remote system :  https://www.readyremote.com/pdf/manuals/24923.pdf  It has a lot of general basic information on the install process.  Things like door locks, extra relays and wire testing.

While I am not familiar with Candian model, I believe it has a transponder immobilizer system system ( chip in the key ).  The Fortin CAN-SL2 bypass is a good choice.  Here is a link to the install guide : https://ifar.ca/download/1548/can-sl2_nissan_sentra_%282007-2008%29.rev-a.pdf

If the car has power door locks, you can get a remote start system that includes keyless entry.

If you consider this an educational project and are willing to spend the hours of research and preparation necessary, the rewards are more than saving a few bucks.  I would call around to some of the local shops to see what they charge.  Their price includes a warranty.  Then add up your cost of the remote start system and bypass module and any tools / parts you will need.  Figure on about 6 hours of actual "hands on the car" time for the install.  About the same time ( six hours ) for research / prep and parts procurement.

Enjoy

Hey thanks man. I will see if I will manage this considering that I have been quoted CAN$350 for installation yet a friend of mine just offered me remote start set he got as a gift for $25.

But thanks a million for the information.

Hi guys, again.

I managed to fit in a remote start (autopage rs60 - cheap ;) ). It works but I have the issue of factory fitted immobiliser. My key does not seem to have a chip becoz even if I put the key close to the ignition it will not start by remote. There are two wires coming from the ignition with a connector just before it goes into the rest of the loom. I tried to bypass the switch with a diode but nothing happened. I thought it was similar to the GM VAT system and tried to put in a resistor but nothing. The engine only starts when u have a key in the ignition so I assume the security switch in the ignition reads either a chip in the key or the resistance of the key. I tried to get the key resistance using a fluke but the reading was all over the place.

Is there a way around it or do I have no choice but to buy a bypass module. Help guys.

Sentras have transponders not passlocks or keys, you need a bypass. Or if you want a way around i can tell you but the fourum doesn't allow it, sorry.
