New to the board, but been cruisin around for a couple of weeks now. I have an 03 Cadillac Escalade and wanting to put in the Viper 5901 remote start/alarm with the CANMAX400DEI dockable module, that I just received a couple days ago.

I have all the wiring schematics for my vehicle already.
I am still confused on what wires of the Viper 5901 NOT to use, when using the CANMAX400DEI. Or what wires I don't need to hook up at all anyway w/ or w/o the canmax..

The whole, not hooking up the 2nd ignition wire is scaring me...I know what wire that in my vehicle, but what wire does it connect to on the 5901? Do I need to use a relay? What configuration?

And also, I cant get a straight answer on when or where I should use a relay in my Escalade.

I thought after reading about how much easier a remote start/alarm install would be when using an Xpresskit, that it would be straight forward...So far it's upside down and backwards...

Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Viper 5901 has a built in Flex Relay that can be used for the Excalades' Ingition 2 wire.  The 5901 comes with this wire (H3/7)  programmed to IGN2 as a default.

The CANMAX400 must be flashed with 400.GM4  Ver0.02 firmware for your car.  Run it in D2D mode and set the Viper jumpers accordingly.

There will be a lot of unused wires on the Viper, some because they are not needed on your car and some because of the CANMAX400 and its' D2D connection.  The CANMAX400 install guide has a list of all functions it performs so you can deduce what Viper wire are not needed.  ( Example:  The CANMAX controls the doors locks thru its D2D connection to the Viper and its J1850 connection to the OBD II plug. Same for alarms, door pin status, trunk, tach, etc.)

Doen't appear that you will need any extra relays.

Thanks for the quick response! Really helpful info here :)

Will I need to hook up the "Door trigger input" H1/6-8 ? Or will the CANMAX D2D take care of that also?

Oh, and I see 3 "Ignition 1 input/output" H3/1(+), H3/6(30a fused), H2/14(-), how do I take care of that?

H3/1 is the Ignition I output.  It needs to be connected to the Escalades' Ignition 1 wire.

H3/6, along with H3/2, H3/9 and H1/2, all need to go to a suitable +12 volt constant source.

The CANMAX D2D connection should take care of the door trigger/status signals.  They are listed in the install guide.

I don't have the newer 5901 install guide that shows the pin outs for H2/14.  What is the name of that signal?

H2/14 is called (-) 200mA Ignition 1 Output

matter of fact there are alot of (-)200mA in H2.. flex relay control output, starter output, status output, oem alarm disarm output, oem alarm arm output...

Then there's the Door Lock 3-pin connector. I assuming/hoping the CANMAX will take care of that too, lol.

Is this really that difficult or am I over thinking it?

Sorry for all the stupid questions, I have never done an alarm/RS before. I am better at the mechanical side of vehicles.

Might as well ask now before I assume and hook up these wire wrong...

So far I have a pretty good understanding to most of the wire locations. But just a few I dont know.

H1/4-Parking light isolation wire - PIN 87a of onboard relay. I seen something where a relay was used, i dont know?

H1/9-(-)200mA Domelight supervision output. I know where the vehicle's wire is, do i just connect it, or is there a relay involved?

H1/11-Parking light output. Again a relay?

H1/12-(-)500mA Ground when armed output. What?

H3/4-(+)Starter Output(car side of the starter kill). ?

H3/5-(+)Starter Input(key side of the starter kill). ?

H3/8-(87a)Flex relay input. What?

H2/1-(-)200mA oem Alarm disarm output
H2/3-(-)200mA oem alarm arm output
H2/10-(-)200mA status output
H2/12(-)200mA flex relay control output
H2/13(-)200mA starter output
H2/14(-)200mA ignition 1 output

oh ya, and the 10a fuse that goes inside the module for the light polarity i think... I think it goes on the (-) side?

Haha, that everything i can think of for now, thanks for any help!
