valet 562t, reprogram spare remote, thieves

Hello all,

I installed a r.s. system that also controlled door locks in my chevy astro over the summer, worked great.

Last weekend I left my keys in the cupholder while distracted by the kids to get in the house. Long story short, someone stole most of my tools ( took the whole toolbox) and MY KEYS with the remote!!

Been tough to sleep this week not knowing when they will hit again having ALL my keys.

Question : is there a way to reprogram the spare remote that I have under a different code? or do I need to track down a new "brain box"? Valet seems to have zero customer service.

you will have to delete all the remotes and then reprogram the remote that you have you can google the programming instructions

Turn the ignition on, press the programming button 13 times holding it in on the 13th press, press lock on the transmitter. Shut off ignition, press any button on the remote. It should not work. Turn the ignition on again, press the programming button two times holding it in on the second press, press lock on the transmitter. This will program all of the buttons on the remote. Turn key off, test it.

I would be more concerned with the fact that the person has the keys to the vehicle. Did the installer hook up horn honk when the system was installed? If the installer did hook up horn, turn on feature 1-15 "security features"...this way if the thief does show up with a key, they would be able to open the door, but when they turn the key to run position the horn will start honking. If the original installer did not hook up the horn I would recommend hooking it up.

Thanks for the replies. Will a reprogram of my spare remote make the orignal remote obsolete? Thats what Im looking to do.

I am going to get a whole new set of locks.

No, reprogramming your remote will not delete the stored remotes. My earlier post explains how to remove all remotes from the system.

Ok I did the process which you explained, and thank you for that.

Yes, the horn is hooked up.

 I'm still not clear if the lost remote will still work on my van after I did that procedure? I'm changing the door lock cylinders to make the old keys obsolete.

If so, should I try and buy a new "brain box" to get on a new frequency?

This deletes ALL transmitters from the system memory. No need to do anything other than this...it even deletes the transmitter you just used to set it up. That's why I followed it up with:

This adds the remote you still have back into the system.
