I'm trying to install the vsm200 smartstart on the 5601 viper module I have which should be seamless however I have a few questions.

Before I get started, I'd like to first mention that I don't have the 5601 remote start wire installed on the system. I bought the 5601 so I can use the smartstart Viper this way I can get txt msg to my phone if the alarm would trigger. I am not interested in the whole phone software aspect of the smartstart.

Here are my questions.

This is the vsm200 quick install manual...
https://www.directed.com/smartstart/iphone/Documents/QRNDSM200_2010-08_web.pdf

1. What does "ESP" stand for

2. For installing.. you connect the D2D from the VSM200 to the D2D of the 5601. That's simple enough, however the 2 ESP wires go where? The manual is quite vague on this.

Is there perhaps a full install guide online of the VSM200 instead of just the Quick Reference install guide?

You only use the 3-pin black plug_For as ESP-  PC/Bitwriter programmable

Whats the purpose of having 2 ESP plugs if you only use 1 ESP plug?

So I'm taking a guess that you plug the ESP 3pin black connector into the Bitwriter port?

hey i have the same questions but im installing the dsm250 with a 5902 viper alarm and a pktx bypass module.

can some one tell me how to connect them?

it says this warnings i dont under stand can some one help?

The white plug is ONLY for RSR (Remote Start
Ready) applications
For systems with combined 4-pin ESP/D2D ports,
you CANNOT use an interface module in D2D
mode when using a SmartStart module. You must
use W2W on the bypass module
There should NEVER be more than one data plug
connected from the 3-way harness
DO NOT cut any of the loops on the SmartStart
Module (unless used for RSR applications)
DO NOT connect the black 3-pin ESP connector to
white Door Lock port on Directed systems

this the link for the
dsm250

YES...the smart start module comes with ESP brown, ESP black, and D2D white to connect to directed electronics alarm and/or remote start modules that have either ESP OR/AND D2D ports. you can only connect ONE of the three options. If you are using a bypass module that is using up D2D, you have to use either BLACK ESP OR BROWN ESP to connect to your alarm and/or remote start module (if it has one available). If not, then you have to use that port for SmartStart and use W2W for the bypass module.
in other words, if it does not have a different port (D2D AND ESP ports separately), then..like the instructions say, For systems with combined 4-pin ESP/D2D ports, you CANNOT use an interface (bypass) module in D2D mode when using a SmartStart module. You must
use W2W on the bypass module, and connect 4-pin brown ESP to system.
As for the white D2D from Smart start, it should only be used if you are installing to RSR (Remote Start Ready) applications. all others..use brown ESP plug to D2D/ESP port of system

I hope this clears things up
