Subject: reprogram unknown avital alarm remote

I bought this used car in 2002 with an avital alarm installed. 1 remote ceased to work at all for some reasons. Now the other "good" remote has reception problem. The reception of the remote to the car is very very short, I have use a key and open the door then put the remote under the dash board for it to disarm. I can't find the central module or the valet button of the alarm so I don't know which avital model it is. It uses the I5M5656 remote with a zone 2 shock sensor. I would love to know a way to reconfig my "ceased to work remote", but I don't have any idea. Please help. I tried changing new batteries too.

try checking for a loose ground wire. this can often cause poor range.

Thanks for lending me a helping hand. What is a loose ground wire, is it a wire that touches the ground?

I have trouble opening these, I know the brain is inside. These are plastic not really screws, anyone can help so I can check the ground wire? Also, anyone knows if old remotes will have lowered receptions? that remote has been more than 10 years and i have been using the same remote.. Thanks

Honda? Unscrew with a large flat then use a trim pop once it starts to loosen up.

Would it be my remote, would remotes decrease in range as it gets very old?
