Hi all,

Newbie to this site (lots of great info!)

I am looking for a 2-way remote start for my 2003 Silverado LT. The truck has all the options so I think I need modules to bypass etc. I am looking for a decent 2-way system that will integrate the best into my truck (least wires cut etc)

I hear DEI makes good systems but I am looking for current recommendations on the 2-way and module(s) I would need. I will install myself and not too worried about the prices of the system (~$400 to spend)

any info is appreciated!!

Assuming just a remote start with keyless entry unit, without alarm.  Also assuming basic two way remote,
not an LCD display remote.

Any major manufacturer produces a quality system.  DEI, Compustar, AutoPage, Audiovox / Prestige, Ultra Start,
etc.  Most professional installers have their favorite brands.  The problem is that none of those manufacturers
will support a DIYer or warrant the product if not installed by a authorized dealer.

Your truck is an easy one to install with the newer bypass modules.  There are no wires to cut unless you want
the Starter Kill / Anti-grind feature.

Here is one suggestion ( there are many good possibilities ) :

Compustar FT6200-S remote start controller with Compustar RF-2WG5-SH remote / antenna kit :
https://www.compustar.com/products/cs/RF-2WG5-SH.html    ( ~ $150.oo )

iDatalink ADS DLSL GM1 bypass module :
https://store.idatalink.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=12    ( ~ $50.00 )

This would provide a solid, reliable Compustar system with 3000' range.  As with most manufacturers, the
kit includes one 2-way and one 1-way remote.  Option programming can be accomplished with either remote.

The bypass module will handle the Passlock2, locks, alarm and provide a tach signal.  Additionally, it can be
configured to turn on the heated seats and rear defroster ( if equipped ).

While having an authorized Compustar dealer install this system will cost more, the lifetime warranty and
one year warranty on the remotes could make the price more attractive.  If you are comfortable with using
a Digital Multi Meter and a soldering gun, you can spend some quality time under the dash installing a nice
upgrade to your truck and save some cash.

Just remember that the complete Install Guide does not come with the system.  It can be found on this site or
the internet, along with wiring guides for the truck.  The only additional part that might be needed is a
30/40 Amp SPDT relay if you wish to power the Accessory2 circuit during remote start.

Research all your options and read all the guides available, there is a lot to learn and know.     posted_image

There are a lot of good units out there, really comes down to preference. If it was me I would do the Avital 5303 (DEI Product) which gives you all the options that you need, D2D interface for easy bypass integration and a 2 Way LCD remote - all for about $109 if you shop right. You can spend the $$$ on a VIPER name but all in all the Avital does everything that the VIPER does (that you will use) and is expandable. I use it on my 08' Tahoe and 08' Silverado with no issues.

As far as bypass modules I would go with a DB-ALLL  (401.GM4 firmware). As long as you purchase it pre-flashed you can control all these funcitons throught the D2D port on the Avital 5303, reducing your time under the dash significantly.

D2D

CC-Power Mirror Memory
CC-Power Seat Memory
CC-Radio Channel Memory
DL-Arm Factory Security
DL-Disarm Factory Security
DL-Door Lock Control
DL-Door Unlock
DL-Driver Priority Unlock
FOB-Control of aftermarket alarm with OEM remote
PK-Immobilizer Bypass-Data No Key Req'd
RS-RAP Shut Down (Remote ACC Power)
RS-Tach / RPM Output
SS-Entry Monitoring Driver Door Pin
SS-Entry Monitoring Front Door Pins
SS-Factory Alarm Trigger Monitoring
ST-Ignition Status
ST-Keysense Status

Again, alot of this is a matter of preference. You have other nice bypass options such as Fortin or iData but the DB-ALL works well with other DEI products and is MY preference.

Here is what I ended up buying..

1) Viper 5501, I bought mainly for the range

2) DB-ALL w/Firmware for my Silverado.

Where would be the best place to look up the wiring for my specific truck?

thanks much for the help, I will let you know how it goes once I get the parts in and start the install! :)
