Hey all, thanks for all the help so far, very resourceful site!

I've been doing a few remote starts here for friends. All have been going well, however, I've got 2 with the same problem so I must be doing something not quite right.

The cars - 2005 Mazda 3 and 2009 Honda Civic
The remote starts - Both clifford 4112 (same as viper 5101)
The bypass - Both key in the box

The issue - Both will start every time via remote start, but both will sometimes not start with the key. If you try the key 2-5 times, they will usually start.

The wire I think is causing this, is the pink + wire on the BYPASS. I have it connected to ignition one. Without having this hooked up, neither car would start with remote start, so thats why I hooked it up.

My though is that with the key, that wire is getting a 12+ signal and turning the bypass on and the ignition is "seeing" 2 keys and not starting? Maybe I'm way off. Other cars with this same scenario have worked fine (a 2011 Subaru Impreza, 2008 civic, etc)

Ideas?

For your key in the box your ground should should be a negative ground at remote start time. What do you have it hooked up to?
Which key in box are you using?

Using the DEI 556U. The ground is hooked up to straight ground. I was under the impression that the blue status wire is what triggered it only for remote start time. Is that the problem? Does this mean the bypass is on all the time then? I should use the ground when armed lead off the remote instead for the negative?

Just double checked the manual for the 556U, it says chassis ground.

Red 12v
Blue negative status
Black ground
That's all you should need to hook up

Thats what I thought, and I've done several cars where that has worked fine, but these 2 needed to have the pink in order to start, otherwise they just crank and crank... Any other ideas? Maybe it isnt related to the bypass...

Ignore the pink wire on the by-pass, blue on the 556 should only go to the status output (GWR).
If they kept cranking, my first thought WOULD be by-pass but have you checked the ignition output from the R/S?
Or is TACH programmed correctly?

That is how its hooked up.

Bypass
Red to 12v
Black to ground
Blue to status
Ping to ignition 1

I'm pretty sure the ignition wires are hooked up correctly as the car starts fine with the remote start. Its starting it with the key that has random problems.

100% working every time = Remote start
50% working = starting with key

Had you tried hooking up the key sense wire from the bypass to the car ?

Boy, now that you mention that I doubled checked the wiring diagram for the civic. The first one said keysense n/a but the other said there is one. I'll try that. Same for the mazda.

The group consensus is that the pink from the bypass should not be needed though?

Agreed. Very few vehicles actually require the pink wire connected. I would guess that it either wasn't sensing the tach or that the ring may not be positioned quite right around the cylinder. Disconnect the pink, check your tach programming and bypass ring around the ignition. If I remember correctly, the Honda's can be picky about the ring positioning and it must be tight (use a small zip tie to tighten the loop around the cylinder). Or possibly look into a data type bypass. They can be more reliable.

save yourself the hassle and purchase a idatalink ads-al-ca or dortin honda sl3, key override all, evo can or evo all.

you will have reliable bypass solutions and never have to worry about the immobilizer. data bypasses are more reliable than key in a box.
