I have a 2010 silverado extended cab 4x4. I recently had a Viper 5701 2-way remote start/alarm installed professionally, and have some issues with it. when you hit the unlock button, the factory alarm will randomly go off, and the only way to disarm it is to use the remote start feature. I've had the truck in and out of the shop on atleast 6 times since it was installed, and every time they contact viper and try something new. they've shot wires, updated the software, and reprogramed it. Has anyone had issues with this make/model truck with this alarm? I'm out of ideas, I've contacted viper, and i swing by the shop atleast once a week to see if they have any new information....but nothing. Just a little frustrated at this whole thing

What are the chances that somebody is locking the doors with the vehicle's door lock switch upon exiting the vehicle? If you use the switch to lock it, and use the aftermarket remote to unlock it, it will do exactly as you describe.

good point, but no that's not the case. I can get up in the morning, walk to my truck and just touch the unlock button, and the factory horn goes off. It seems to have stumped both the installers, and viper. I like the system and would love to keep it, but kind of annoying. The last time i was at the shop viper was on the phone and said it seems to be a data collision issue. They said that the newer silverado has gone from having a physical wire to a digital type disarm. hmmm...

How do you lock the doors when you get out of the truck?

Not knowing what brand of data bypass they used, the simple fix would be to connect the factory alarm disarm wire directly to the disarm wire on the Viper. Directechs shows it as this...
lt. green (except premium models)(dr door key cyl) BCM, pink plug, pin 20
The BCM (Body Control Module) is under the driver dash, to the left of the steering column. On premium models, it is lt. green (-) at the driver window switch, brown 16 pin plug, pin 4.
I've seen it at both locations on these trucks... ------------- Mike M2

Hey Mike,
I recently did a 2011 Silverado I was using a Fortin Piece on it. So I didn't need locks or Disarm, The Fortin piece took care of all of that. While I was working at the BCM, I noticed the truck had door lock wires at the gray plug, and they tested off the drivers door switch. Since I had some extra time to do some poking around, I did some more looking. The truck had a factory alarm, but the light green disarm wire would't test as a disarm wire. I tested it off the drivers door key cylinder with no joy. I know I had the correct wire, Directed has a PDF of the BCM with all the wires/pins/plugs drawn up for these trucks. There was no passenger key cylinder to try. Do you know why that wouldn't test correctly?

Mike, the local shop called me yesterday and want me to bring the truck back in. Apparently Viper sent them another software update, so they want to re flash it. I'll keep you posted on what happens...fingers crossed!

Mitch - did the latest software update work for you? I have a 2011 silverado that has been doing the same thing for months. It has been back to the installers several times and still is sounding the horn occasionally when I disarm. Last Saturday they had it for 6 hours and finally told me they loaded new software and reprogrammed it. It worked for 5 days and went off again tonight.
