Installing a Viper 5301 Remote Start in a Freestar. This car has a hood pin already and I am wondering if I can use it instead of installing a hood pin? I have not tested any of the wires. Never had the opportunity to use a factory hood pin.
Also this car has Autolamps, has any one connected the parking lights using a 1.2k ohm resistor on the BLACK/ green(-), as mentioned one one site I checked? Bulldog Security shows using two relays which is no problem to connect. Just wondering if any has used this method?
And last, anyone have a location for the rear defrost wire. A much liked feature in northern Wisconsin.

Don't see too many Freestars. Never tried the resistor method on the Parking Lights but I have successfully used the one relay method shown by Bulldog.
Here is a photo of the necessary wires at the switch ( non-Auto Headlights ) :

Think I'd go with the DirectFax 1072 setup for the Parking Lights with AutoHeadlights. Looks pretty much the same as the Bulldog info.

I cannot say I've used a factory hoodpin in a freestar but I have in an early 2000s taurus which didn't pan out. Every 3rd remote start or so it would spike and shutdown the remote start.

Yeah, I was not having any luck with the factroy hood pin so I put in the mercury type tilt switch.

Diode the factory hood pin, in series, pin your connection then diode with band towards connection, that spike is the good old GEM box waking up, ref DEI 1076.
------------- Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

I'll keep that in mind Howie should I have the chance to use a factory hood pin again. As of now, the van is back to the owner.
Did have an issue with a Fortin keyoverride SL-2 that would not program. After 5 tries, I used a keyoverride-all and it programed on the first try. First time I had a Fortin bypass issue. They have always been solid with me. Must have been made on a Friday or Monday. ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions
