I'm going to attempt to install a remote car starter this weekend on my 2004 Dodge Caravan.  I was looking at the required resistors that were posed in the wiring instructions that I found on this site and was wondering if I can use any other resistors without causing any issues.

5.3k ohm resistor - I have a 4.7k or 5.6k

2.1k ohm resistor - I have a 1.8k or 2.2k

1.69k ohn resistor - I have a 1.5k or 1.8k

Any help with this would be appreciated,

Thanks!

If you have a nice assortment of resistors, you can use two or more in series or parallel to create the exact
value you need.  Resistors in series will just add together.  100 ohms plus 470 ohms = 570 ohms
Resistors in parallel use a formula which can be found at this link :  https://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-paralresist.htm
It is best to have a DMM to check and verify the resistors and the results ( unless you know the color code, something about
Bad Boys and Young Girls...  posted_image  ).

Looks like you need :
180 ohm for the Starter Mux
 2K ohm and 5.2K ohm ( or 5.3K ) for door locks
1.5K ohm and 2.7K ohm for sliding doors    Diagram      https://documents.audiovox.com/700078.pdf
 2K ohm ( or 2.1K ) for Parking Lights
 1.7k ( or 4.7K ) ohm for Hatch Release

And a bunch of relays...  Think I did a 2006 Caravan with resistors and a Key-In-The-Box a long time ago.

you normally dont have to be exact when using resistors, i think if you can be within 5%-10% of the value that it calls for then it will work perfectly. the only set listed that you might have a problem with is the first set, 4.7k or 5.6k might be too far off from 5.3k. you will probably end up using a few different resistors together in series. if you use three of your 1.8K resistors then you should be right at what you need.

I feel a terrible pun afflicting me.
Change the third word to "resist".

I was "taught" that saying in 7th grade. The teacher actually left the room so a kid in the class could recite it to us. A questionable teaching technique but it obviously worked! I never forgot it. Probably one of few things I still remember from back then!

Are you using relays or an actual Remote Start...? If doing a normal r/s... the bypass does most of that for you(Resistors)... Other-wise, Good-Luck...!
