i will be installing an alarm/remote start system in a 2006 Kia Spectra 5. I have seen conflicting info online regarding the transponder, a even the need of an actuator to use keyless entry. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I have yet to see one built in the US with a transponder. As far as the door locks Does it have a power lock button on the interior panel ? If so does the drivers door lock and unlock using the button ? If it does you should be all set to add your system. If the drivers door doesn't work with the button then you will most likely need to add an actuator to the drivers door.
