Hello, ive got an 09 ford escape and i recently installed an excalibur rs-350-edp remote starter and omega ol-mib-ko bypass. ive got the starter functional, starts shuts off locks and unlocks etc.

i have one issue with the brake sensor wire. i used the PURPLE / white wire that comes off the brake switch at the top of the pedal assembly. i verified that this wire is 12+ only when the brake is depressed. at first i hooked this wire up and the system wouldnt start at all and i was baffled. after disconnecting the wire it started just fine but the rs unit would only turn off once it had timed out so i had to use the fob to shut off the car if i drove a shorter time than the time-out.

so i re checked the brake wire and it turns out that when the vehicle "stages" just before the start up while using the rs (gauges turn on, fuel pump primes etc) theres a short burst of 12+ that goes through the brake switch that i have tapped and it tells the rs to stop it's progress and therefore the system doesnt start the car.

my questions are, has anyone used this wire effectively? if so, what could be causing the short burst of 12+? is there an alternative source that i could use as the shut off so that the rs unit isnt running the car when the key is turned on? (i tried tapping the brake lights but for some reason that didnt work either, i didnt pursue checking to see if they receive the same pulse that the brake switch does though)

this is the site i got my wiring information from

Thanks!
T.J.

I've never had any issues with those trucks. I can't remember it's been a while since I did one. It's there more than one PURPLE / white at the switch ? Maybe you grabbed the cruise shutdown wire ?

Howie II has seen something like this on Euro BMW's, etc.   It's like a test pulse the vehicle does at start-up. Think he used a relay to open that brake wire connection for the first 5 seconds after a remote start.

Try unhooking your parking light wire. That burst is you being connected to the wrong parking light wire most likely and its the rs flashing lights before start. If you look at your wiring chart they are the same color.

You need to grab parking light behind where the harness that comes under drivers side seat ties into the wiring running down sill and test for proper wire as there are a few or them or get it at the sjb

Oh no... so I pulled the fuse on the wire that runs the parking lights from the rs and reconnected the brake wire to see what would happen. This confirms that my parking light wire is wrong, the rs works fine and stops with the brake with it disconnected. But, when I hit the brake while running on rs, key in or out, the horn sounds once when it shuts off... I rechecked my horn wire, connections are all good, it doesnt honk at any other odd times. I wonder If I use the programmable features and just disable the horn.honk in the rs if it would not honk. But im still stuck on why it would do this is in the first place...

It may do that to alert you that somebody got in your vehicle and was attempting to drive it away.

The horn honk is normal behavior for the omega remote starter when it's locked/armed and you hit the brake. If you were to press unlock on the omega remote and then put the key in and turn to on, and push the brake, you should hear no horn.
