The remote initially used a 12v "27a" battery. I want to power the remote from vehicle power. I do not see any resistors on the remote and I do not want to connect the battery and fry the remote with too much amperage. Any ideas?

It will only draw the amperage it requires unless there's an internal short, try a 1 amp line fuse. Or even a 20mm 50 milliamp fuse for serious protection (radio shack, the fuses used in DMM's).
