I've been a car audio guy and general electronics tech for a couple of decades, but this install has me flustered. I'm attempting to install the 5806 only for remote start. I've combed many forums looking for information and have integrated that into what I've tried below. I also have a 791 bypass.

What I've done:

5806 RS 10 pin

2 RED / blk - nothing
3 pnk/blk - nothing (did try connected to 6 as noted by one user, cranks when key is in run)
4 pnk/wht - blue + ign 2
5 red     - parallel with 10
6 grn     - wht/blk + key starter
7 vio     - wht/blk + to starter
8 org     - nothing
9 RED / wht - parallel with 10
10 pnk    - grn + ign 1 so 10, 9, and 5 are tied here

Also, I have the following on the aux connector:

13 blk/wht - ground
17 pnk     - to 791 blue - bypass

on the main:
1 red      - +12
2 blk      - ground (all grounds are at the same location)
3 brn      - siren (I had to connect this to make programming changes)

I figured out that I had to connect the neutral safety switch and it is plugged in. I also figured out that I had to ground the door switch to program the unit.

The car works fine with the key. I've also tried remote starting with the key in the ignition just in case the bypass isn't working. The 5806 makes wonderful relay clicking noises when rs is pushed.

Remote start diags:
The unit reports neutral safety shutdown and low battery after attempting to remote start. Flipping the neutral switch results in nothing when rs is pushed. Ungrounding #13 results in the same. To me, when the switch is on and 13 grounded, the unit thinks all is ok.
Battery voltage is 12.6. I've also tried with an external jump charger attached with no change, so I don't believe the low voltage code.

All connections are made on the steering column at this point. If/when I get a solution, I'll replace the OEM harness and tie the appropriate remote start connections in above the brake pedal.

a 791 wont be so reliable in cold weather. use a data style bypass

Bingo. Works like a charm! Thanks guys!

Now, for the bonus question.... after starting the car with the rs, and inserting the key after getting in, turning the key off does NOT shut off the car. I have to turn it off with the remote.

Is this normal??

Are you saying that you JUST put the key in, turn it to on and then off? without stepping on the brake pedal to shift into drive?

Is the brake shutdown wire connected?
