Hello all, I found this forum just in time. I am a member in several other forums and have found them to be great help!
Currently, I am installing a remote starter with keyless entry into my wife's 2002 PT Cruiser. The wiring diagram states a 3k resistor (wattage not mentioned} and a 7.2k resistor (wattage not mentioned} are needed when connecting the two relays to the box. I found a 3k resistor (I picked up a single watt piece) but have nothing but a headache finding the 7.2k resistor. Can anybody point me in the direction of one? I have tried MCM, Digi-key, Parts Direct and a few others with no luck. Scratching my head so much, it's falling out. Grooooooaaaaaan

You can use multiple resistors in series to get to that value. Can you find a 1.2K? 3K 3K 1.2K = 7.2K 1/4 watt devices will work fine.

They make 3.6 in 2% and 5%. So 2 of those in series = 7,200, +/- 5% = 7560-6840. Buy a package of several, and use your meter to find the sum of 2 that are closest to your 7,200 target. You can also put a 6800 and a 7500 in parallel for 7150., +/- 5% = 7507-6792. There is also a 1% 71.50 which +/- 1% = 7221-7078 which is closer tolerance to your 7,200 ohm target than 5% resistors. I have no idea how difficult it is to source 1% and 2% resistors in small quantities. The 5% are common.

Thank you for the answers! One question, I was told by a friend last night I could use an 18k ohm 5% and a 12k ohm 5% in parallel and get 7.2k. Does this sound right?

Plug in the values of the resistors you have available and it will tell you the resulting resistance.
If your R/S system doesn't have built in lock relays, you could get a Directed 451M Door Lock Module. They come with a package of resistors that include the 3K and a 7150 ohm resistor. A neat package with everything you need for under $10. ------------- Soldering is fun!
