2015 Toyota Highlander & DBALL2

I have a 2015 Toyota Highlander Limited with SmartKey and push to start. There is no factory remote start or at the lease it is not enabled, but I doubt there any equipment from Toyota.

we have a dei 5704 and a DBALL2 TL8 v1.05 installed. the only issue is with remote starting, it goes through the process of starting but just after it starts it shuts off with the error that the brake was pressed. During the remote start I can see the brake lights come on about the time ignition comes on (just before the starter cranks)

this issue seems to come from the DBALL2 as it doesnt matter if its W2W or D2D. In the W2W installation that we tried, we didnt connect the brake connection at all, still had the same problem starting. We have tried a different DBALL2 with the same result.

a side note, if you remote start and just before the remote start cranks you push the push to start button, the vehicle will start and the alarm remote will display "remote start error" confirming the brake is being pressed because normal vehicle operation requires the brake to be pressed to start.

anyone have any suggestions to fix this? thank you in advance

Stand at the back of the car while remote starting it. Do the brake lights come on? They shouldn't, the remote start mimics the factory starter and will not require the brakes to be pressed. Also, you can try disconnecting the park light output from the remote start to see if the park lights are somehow back feeding into the brake lights. Let us know what you find.

yes, the brake lights come on when remote starting, just about the time the ignition comes on and stay on until it starts and shuts off.

its been tried to install wire to wire and not connect the brake at all. its occurring inside the dball2

We need to be sure it's the db-all that's responsible for the brake lights coming on. I'm not even sure the db-all has the capability to do this. Where are your other connections from the remote start going to?

which is the instructions for the dball2 on highlander 2015 with smart key, there is brake output on pin six of the 12 pin connector (W2W) and since that is the the only device connected to the vehicles ECU via OBDII and since it turns the brake lights on regardless of W2W or D2D connection style it can only be coming from the DBall2... right?

Is there any directly connected to the brake wire? Try putting a DMM on the brake wire during remote start to see if there is 12volts (+) getting to it. Either the brake wire on the car or the pin 6 of the DB-ALL.

And did the DB-ALL program correctly?

yes, the brake is getting powered.

the wire to wire method was tried without connecting the brake and the problem remains

Did the DB-ALL program correctly? per page 8 of the DB-ALL guide.
Or did it flash orange on step 2?

its programmed correctly, with an ipad and tech support on the phone for 3 hours. they say it should work right. Im sure its something simple we are missing.

I just had an idea. Unplug the db-all, remote start it (it will fail), and check it the brake lights are turning on.
