Whenever I replace the battery in my 1998 Honda Civic the alarm goes off upon reconnecting the negative cable. Sometimes my remote won't deactivate the alarm.

Is there any way I can temporarily disable just the siren so I don't have it blaring in my ears non stop while I try to fight with this remote/alarm in order to deactivate it? I'm pretty sure the alarm is a Prestige APS15CH or an APS25CH judging by the remote I have.

Turn the key to the on position when connecting the battery.

That's normal for those systems. The remote should work, but sometimes the system puts out interference that won't allow the system to receive the remote's signal. An easy fix is to stuff a rag in the siren before connecting the vehicle battery. If the remote won't disarm it, put the system into valet mode. This will shut it down.
