hi i installed a viper 4606v system in my 05 ram the system works great but i cant get the smartstart to work. it is active and i have a service plan. I called viper CS and they told me that i needed to take it to a dealer and have my system programed before the smartstart would work so I bought a bitwriter and upgrade chip and now the bitwriter wont read so am stuck. anyone know anything about bitwriters?

Bitwriters are for programming the r/s or alarm brain itself not the smart start. You need DEI access to register the smart start which is probably why they are telling you to go to a DEI dealer so they can do it for you. They will need your email address to do it so once it is registered DEI will send you an email to activate the account. I know you said its active but they probably want a DEI dealer to register it.

Yeah I already did all the steps to get it active and I bought the 1year plan. But when I called them they said that the 4606v module had to be programmed be for the smartstart would work. And where I live the only dealer close sucks and they don't want to mess with it if you did not buy from them. So here I am doing it my self so I bought the bitwriter. Do you know if the module has to be programmed for the smart start to work?

The 4606v does not require any special programming for adding a smart start module. The smart start module requires initialization and activation via an authorized technician with DEI smart start activation access.

If installed properly the process takes very little time.

Is your smartstart a Viper one or a DEI one? There is a difference as there are two different apps.
I installed a DEI smartstart module in my daughters car and she was trying to use the Viper app. Didn't work. Changed to the DEI app, no problems for three years now.

Just a thought.

What's the difference if I active or a dealer actives it?

Unless it's changed. A customer has never had access to directed resources. Again. Unless it's changed. How exactly did you activate it??

I just made a account on directechs.com and followed the activation steps. I have an account that is up and running. So unless there is something that I missed I should be good. The problem I'm having is that on the app it looks like it's working but it does nothing at the vehicle. The app will say it locks, unlocks, and remote starts but it does not.

When you "followed activation steps" it should have shown signal strength etc from the smart start module and asked you to send commands to the unit". If not then you only activated your account not the module. What color are the leds on the smart start? Where is the smart start installed in the vehicle? It should be in the dash high up under as little metal as possible.

Update. success I found the problem the install guide was wrong. I had the red and black connector hooked up and I was using the black 3 pin ESP connector that matched up with the 3 pin black port on my module. whitch did not work. So I used the blue, green, and white and blue wires from the 5 pin connector ran the blue and green to the 3 pin door lock connector wires and ran the white and blue wire to the remote start activation wire at the 24 pin connector. And it works like a champ.
