I am installing a Blackjax 5 and have to periodically disconnect the unit from power. Does anyone know if the Blackjax unit will retain settings programmed into it when the power is restored. For example the code and the shutdown rpm or speed. Also, the unit does keep the ignition and starter circuits engaged when powered down, can this behavior be modified? Thank you.

First question yes.
Second question no because a normally closed circuit is intrinsically safer, you'll get home in the case of failure.

Great news on the retained memory for programmed features. The second answer has me a bit perplexed. Maybe I didn't ask it correctly. When I meter the heavy gauge molex into the unit for ignition and starter, the circuits show open, that is to say the relays internal appear to be normally open when powered off. So there is that observation. But I do see in the programmable features section of the manual that there is a feature called "passive immobilization" and the default is supposedly OFF. I am wondering what this feature does and is it possibly programmed to ON leading to my open relay scenerio?
Thank you guys for all your help by the way.

Hi, thanks for the response here. I think there is a problem with the unit I just bought because it meters out as normally open on both the ignition and starter feeds from the main unit. Is this default? That bothers me to know if the unit fails, or pops a fuse, the car is stranded.
I noticed in the manual there is a reference to "passive immobilization" in the programming section.
But no explanation as to what that means and I have found zero articles on the web to help clarify. My thought here is that this may be a feature that toggles the "normally open" or "normally closed" status of the ignition and starter loops. If that is true, then perhaps my unit was misprogrammed at the factory to the "normally open" (or is factory refurb that was not reset). That would explain the issue. If all this holds up, I still woder then what kind of relay are they using in the unit. Is it some kind of latching relay that can be toggled to either config or just plain old electronic voodoo? Thanks, Michael

No I may have been wrong, about 10 years since I installed one, they are NO you metered it correctly!
Passive immobilisation is a bloody nuisance so ignore it.

Just so I understand, this does mean if the unit fails or blows a fuse or stops working for any reason, the vehicle is stranded? But the unit retains the programmable settings on the next power up.
Is there any way to change the normally open status of the loops?
Or is it necessary to wire up and hide a DPDT switch in case of emergencies?

I think so, have you checked the programming list?
That switch will need to be at least 20 amp capacity.

I think passive immobilisation means that it automatically immobilises your vehicle after you leave, say after a minute.

That makes sense. In my situation, I won't need it with a 5906 installed, along with a factory Jeep transponder ignition key.

Thanks for the feedback.
