Just finished installing a DesignTech remote starter into a 1998 Subaru Forester. The DesignTech wire color chart stated that there is an ignition 2 wire - green with an orange tracer.

I can find no such wire in the ignition harness (where it says the wire should be located) or anywhere else for that matter, and no one else's color charts (Prestige, Bulldog, The12Volt) mention the GREEN/ orange wire.

The BCM powers up fine and the engine tries to start when an RF command is issued, BUT the engine won't catch. The HVAC doesn't come on, either...just the radio and gauge cluster.

Anyone know what might be wrong here?!

Thanks,
DDR

Every Subaru I have ever done has 1 ignition, 1 accessory, 1 starter, 1 constant +12v. Very simple cars electrically. Are you sure you didn't switch the ign. and acc. wires? What about tach, what did you use? Haven't done a Designtech in a while, but does the tach need to be programmed?

No, no need for tach with a DesignTech - they have what they call "tachless" ignition that watches the car's battery voltage and detects the jump in voltage when the car starts... pretty interesting stuff...

Here is some info from our Wire Magic database.

+12V - BLACK/ white or White*
Ignition - Black or Green*
Accessory - BLACK/ blue or Yellow*, **

* Wire colors are different on the 2 sides of the plug at the ignition switch.
** The heater/ac functions are actually controlled by the ignition wire, you should connect this wire anyway.

Hope this helps.

Hmm...perhaps I have the ignition/accy wires backwards. I will double-check this. Car is with owner right now, won't be able to get at everything for a little bit...
