My job just ordered me an 04 Malibu as a work vehicle. I tried to get it with the remote start option, but couldn't get it. I plan on installing the Avital 4400 remote start/alarm/2 way unit. Any wiring info? I am about 2 - 3 weeks away from getting the car, but want to get ready. I understand it has one wire that is the starter, key sense, and 2nd ing??? Someone else told me I need a DEI 555L and a 555U with an extra key???? Info is apprecaited. I have done MANY remote starts. Just haven't seen too much info on this car yet. ALSO....I have 2 amps and subs I would like to install. One amp to run the 4 speakers in the car (built in crossover) and one amp to run my OLD JL 12W4's. I know changing the stereo is probably not happening because it has the warning and message center built in. How would I use the factory radio to run signal into the 2 amps? I have not done stereo work for a couple of years, but we used to use PAC parts to step the signal down and turn it to a low level RCA input. The amp also has high level inputs I could use. This vehicle has Passlock AND Transponder Anit-theft systems, that must both be bypassed for remote starts.A conventional Passlock bypass will NOT work with this vehicle. Remeber to Diode isolate the Ground Out When Running wire from the remote starter between the Passlock relays and the transponder bypass.
* When Ignition, Accessory, and the Anti-theft systems are activated, removing 12 Volts (+) from the Accessory wire, engauges the Starter motor. In otherwords, NO Starter wire connection is necessary.
** Lock: Green, use a relay to send signal (-). If there is no O.E.M. alarm, use White (-) for Lock.
*** Doorpins, see diagram for proper connection. BCM is found under the center console, and can be accessed from the passengers side:
Driver Front: Light Grey/ Black pin 51 in Grey 72 pin plug at BCM
Driver Rear: Light Blue/ Black pin 54 in Grey 72 pin plug at BCM
Passenger Front: Tan/ White pin 72 in Grey 72 pin plug at BCM
Passenger Rear: Light GREEN/ Black pin 53 in Grey 72 pin plug at BCM

When doing the remote starter, you need to get your main wires behind the ignition, so you need to take the radio out. there may also be a plastic wall on the left side blocking you from getting at the wires, , i just take a hack saw and cut it out, it serves no purpose. And as for the stereo,. if you ever plan on putting a aftermarket head unit in there, you will need to find a place to put the factory radio, because you need to keep it attached to the car to reatin your data wires. The wire harness for this car is double the price of a normal harness.

To change the stereo, I recommend a C2R-GM24 from PAC. Retails for about $100. It will maintain the warning chime and will keep the class 2 databus system working fine. If you have On-Star and want to continue using it, then you will need a different adapter...probably a OS-2 from PAC. I've used the above on a bunch of recent GM vehicles and they work fine. Prevents you from having to stash the factory radio somewhere else in the car.
Metra has a new dash kit out for that car, although I don't know the model number off hand.
