Has anyone done a remote start on a vw. I have an 01 Jetta to do. I can't find much info. My fear is in the security system. Do they use a transponder? I have conflicting info. Also I have seen posts with issues about disarming the security system to start. Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want this job, but....:errr:

Thanks

Larry

According to my information, VW Jeeta has been transponder based since 2000. To start without setting off the OEM alarm, you have to double pulse the unlock wire and then re-arm after remote start. Most remote starter's have a re-arm wire that will automatically do that for you.

Thanks Jeff

It has those Euro keys with the remote in the key. A couple of sites list bypass mods. a couple don't. I just wasn't sure. I will give it a go.

I didn't tell you the really bad part. It is a standard. I've got the correct unit but now I've read that people are having problems with the remote being cancelled by the security sytem being dissarmed. I hope I can get around this. I guess the remote sees the dissarm as a door being opened. I really, really didn't want this job.

What do you mean by the remote being cancelled by the security system being disarmed?

With the standard trans. you need to sequense the starter on exiting the vehicle which involves using the quick stop feature, leaving the vehicle running, exiting, then shutting it off with the remote. Oppening a door after will cancel the operation. I have read posts that say when dissarming the alarm on a vw the unit sees it as a door oppening and it cancels out. I don't know as I have not don'e any vw myself. It could be that dissarming turns on the dome light or something which triigers the unit to think a door was oppened. If this is the case I can probbably diode isolate the switches and do it that way. I really never wanted to put a remote into a standard but it is for a good customer and they are insistant they can live with the difficulty of sequensing this thing.

For disarming during remote start you can use a relay to interupt the BLACK/ Purple wire (found in the Blue plug at the alarm module) with a (-) out when running wire as your trigger. This way you dont need to hook up a disarm wire which would force you to have to relock the doors after the engine starts, since the drivers door unlocks with the first pulse on the unlock wire.

Thats good to know, Thanks. I don't know anything about vw's security systems so ant info will save me lots of time. Still waiting for the unit to arrive from Design Tech. Hope I can do this one without a big dissaster.

It is really not a hard install. you do have to go in the front door to grab the door locks. if you are doing an alarm system as well you will also need to go into all the doors for the door triggers. as far as the remote start you will need to get a 555u to bypass the transponder system. any questions just post them here. i also have a jetta and i know just about everything about them.
