Hi, I bought a 1997 suburban with many bells and whistles. the remote has 3 positions. "lock", "Unlock" and  "rear 2x". When the unlock is activated only the front doors operate correctly. There doesn't seem to be any movement coming from the 2 passenger doors. ....almost as though they're not hooked up at all. When i hit the rear 2x the back barn door unlocks. Is this normal?  Is there a simple explanation and solution. I'm pretty handy with fixing things. could someone help me fix this one. i'm willing to dig in and make some changes to relays and or wire some things up. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Rich

It sounds like you have a factory keyless enty.  Do the doors lock and unlock with the key in the ignition  ( when you start the vehicle and shut it off)?  If  they do and they rear doors are not working, and you checked the fuses under the dash and under the hood, then the factory actuators might have gone bad.

Lock actuators have probably gone bad, it happens alot in the older chevys.

thanks for the quick response. I'll have to check the fuses under the dash ( where are they btw.) I would have thought that theý'd be on the same fuse as the front actuators. I'll be checking today. thanks again.Rich

yes you have factory K/E. does the switch on the two front doors work like they should?????? also how about the cigarette lighter??? sometimes a fuse will cause part of the system to frop out.....

If more than one door is responding to the keyless, then there are probably no blown fuses. Check to see if the tan and gray wires going into the rear doors rest at ground and receive 12 volts when locking or unlocking. The tan wire should get 12 volts when unlocking and the gray one for unlock. If they do, then check the door lock actuators in the doors. If they don't, then check for a open plug or wiring defects. The factory keyless entry is designed to open just the driver's door with one press of the unlock button. Pressing it twice unlocks all the other doors. Pressing the 2x button unlocks the rear door.

Thanks sparkie, I 'll get on it soon. Lately i've been chasing gremlins in the 6.5 diesel motor. It wants to cut out for no good reason. I'll be messing with the PMD . An electronic gizmo for the fuel injection pump.
