Do to cost reasons and so I have control over the install I am about to install a alarm / remote start in my wifes truck. Its a 99 Tahoe. I have been practicing solder joints so I think all will be OK in that dept. The system is a Audio Vox APS996a. I will be adding DEI tilt / motion sensor, DEI battery backup siren and a piezo siren under the dash.

Is there anything I am going to run into that I need to be aware of on this install?

If all goes well on this one I will be trying my hand at my 04 Avalanche.

do you have a passlock II system in your truck? (GM's security built into the key) Cause if you do you will need a bypass module like DEI's 555T or 555L, also if your truck has the metal crash gaurd behind the lower dash panel that bolts in make sure when you put your wires back in they dont get pinched by that metal bracket because we had a tahoe at my shop come in that kept blowing ignition fuses because 1 wire got pinched and was shorting out.

The Chevy's have an OEM disarm wire for the alarm that needs to see ground before remote start. The Tahoe is a very easy truck to work on ( lots of room under the dash ) and the tach is very easy to find as well in the engine bay. For the 2004 Avalanche I suggest getting a door lock interface/Passlock II bypass module for ease of installation. PM me for more information on this installation.

Well I did order the DEI 555L for both trucks for the Passkey. I also ordered the DEI databus module for the 04 Avalanche so I should be good there.

I was more wondering anything I might run in to since it will be a first time. I have learned a lot hear just reading lots of past history posts.

I am doing the install as we speak on a 99 Tahoe. Its a APS996a with DEI 555L.

-in the instuctions is says to pull main 12 volt power of two wires but only if total load does not exede 30A. There is a red and a RED / white 12v at the colunm. Are these ok to use or do I have to bring power from the battery?

-is this truck passlock I or passlock II

-anything else I might run in to during this install? I do build ans work on cars all the time but this is my first dive this deep in an electrical system.

thanks

I just figured it out as paslock II but if I can get the other answers that would be great.

OK I am on the downhill side of the install. I only get to work a few hours at a time so its taking a while.

One last question, on the diagram above it says lock motor and locks are different. So what wires do I use? The lt blue/ white or the grey and tan?

The alarm is limited to 300mA on its RED / green outputs and I don't want to burn it up the first time I try it.
