I just bought a 98 vw cabrio glx and i assume that it has an aftermarket alarm.  Nevertheless, I have had trouble figuring out how exactly to make the keyless entry function work with one click of the remote.  The module itself is a two button devise with a red light.  The fcc id J55218T1.  Does anyone know this system?

Thank you

jacob

do you know what brand of unit you have. once we find tht out, we should be able to track down an owner's manual for you

i assume that at the current moment you need to press the unlock button twice to unlock the passenger door when you just simply want to press it just once to unlock both doors.

since you don't know the make and model of the aftermarket alarm that you have, then it's pointless to try to program it for a double-pulse unlock. it may not even be capable of doing that for all we know, since that feature wasn't already programmed.

instead, you can make a change to the car's door lock system itself. go to the trunk and look/listen for the factory door lock vacuum pump. if i'm not mistaken, it should be right underneath the passenger side tail lamp. pull out the wiring harness that's connected to it, and on the pump side's molex, you should see pins that are numbered. find pin #8, and you'll probably notice that there's no wire attached to that spot on the harness side. lead a ground to that pin #8, and you'll discover that you will no longer need to have double-pulses to unlock both doors...one pulse will be able to do it, even with using the key in the door.

good luck!
