i will be finishing my install of my clifford matrix tommorow and i have three questions.

First i know you can not extend some of the wires on alarms but is it ok to extend the wiring harness on the 508D so that i can put it in the back seat area?

Second 451M Door lock relay do i have to cut the wires for the door locks and splice this in or can i just use t-taps and not cut the wires? Which colors would i use? I have a 97 Cutlass Supreme and i know the purple goes to a constant +12 volts what about the others?

Third what it the best connection to use for the remote start wires when i cut the igniton wires, i have access to a good assortment of crimp connectors or are these a bad idea for the high amprage wires? When i skimmed through my mecp study guide i could not find anything about the types of connections to use on a remote start system in the security section of the book.

Thanks for your help

Brian

I'll give my opinion on tapping into factory wires.  Granted I have not been in the alarm/remote starter installation business (though I have put more than a handful of these in) but I am in the emergency vehicle equipment installation area and I can tell you that when making connections no matter what the wire size is it is always best to solder the connections.  This gives a stronger connection with less resistance for the most part.  Also looks better than a bunch of t-taps or other connectors similar in nature.  Yes soldering may take longer but chances are you will not be hunting for that elusive bad connection problem and so forth.

1) sure

2) you don't need the 451M, you have positive trigger locks

https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#3wp

just connect the blue (+)lock to light blue

and the green (+) unlock to white

3) always, always solder the connections! only thing to cut is the starter wire, everything else can be stripped back and soldered to.

One last question is it ok to hook up the 508D to the orange ground when armed wire?

Thanks again for all of your help.
