2003 Toyota Matrix / Crimestopper CS-2016

Hello all, as you can tell from my post count I'm new to posting on this message board; however, I've found it really helpful in the past. I was recently robbed of all my wonderful stereo equipment and decided I should put an alarm in my car before I put any of the insurance replacements back in, but not being able to afford an installer I decided to do it myself.

So far, it's been all right, but I have a few questions. Forgiveness in advance if these questions have been answered already - I used the forum's search function but couldn't find any of these answers...

Again, this is a 2003 Toyota Matrix Base - no power windows, door locks, keyless entry or factory alarm: this car has no options. The alarm is a Crimestopper CS-2016FM.

1) I'm trying to wire the starter disable with the included relay. All the connections make sense except one: it states I should connect the blue wire (85) to "Ignition switched "on" & hot through cranking".

What exactly am I connecting 85 to? Ignition wire 1 or 2? A key sense wire?

The other connections on the relay are (30)(orange) to the starter wire, ignition side; (87a)(orange) to starter wire, motor side, and (86)(yellow) to orange wire of alarm. From the six pin harness I'm supposed to connect brown (starter output) to starter, motor side as well (87a+brown+starter wire, motor side.

2) The horn trigger on this car is negative. The output on the alarm is negative. According to the wiring diagram, it makes no mention of the circuit needing +12V - does this sound correct?

2a) Assuming I'm wrong on (2), the manual doesn't say what amp fuse I should use if need to wire a relay. How would/could I discover the amp load?

3) From my wiring diagram, there's no 'dome light activation wire' that I know of, so would I connect the Dome Light output to something like the door trigger?

I installed the same alarm on my wife's protege..Good unit..satisfied.. some answers..

1) You are connecting it to ignition 1 wire. This will prevent antigrind: let's say after you remote start, you enter the car and put the key in the ignition and inadvertently turn the key to start.. The starter won't turn and grind. Connecting it to ignition1 also enables the starter disable circuit to energize when the key is turned in the ignition..thus energizing the disable relay only when the key is turned. This helps with the relay not being energized by default causing a draw on the battery.

2) If it is under 500ma negative trigger, put a relay to make this work. try connecting it directly and see what happens..if your horn is weak or does not work, put a relay inline.. You don't need a fuse since it is negative on the car trigger and the alarm trigger.

3) Well, looking at the wiring diagram for a 2003 matrix, it says it comes on with door unlock. Looks like it is tied into that circuitry. I would leave it alone unless you want to do fancy things with the dome light like hook it into a dedicated channel on your remote.. Usually a known place to find dome supervision is by the light that goes around the ignition key are enabling you to see the keyhole in the dark...

I'm not a pro..hope this info helps you..

7.5 or 10 amp is sufficient for the fuse on this relay.

Success! The car alarm plus remote start works. I need to put in door locks, and add the horn honk.

1) Speaking of the latter, before I go about connecting the horn wire to the trigger in the steering column, I was wondering if someone could enlighten me as to how I could do the aforementioned relay inline? I went through the relay guide - maybe I'm missing something, but it wasn't completely clear to me.

2) For every relay, could I use one fused connection (i.e. one 30A connection) or should I run a fuse connection for each connection?

Good to hear the install worked..

try connecting the horn wire directly...if it does not work..wire a relay as follows:

pin 86 to horn trigger output wire on aftermarket alarm
pin 30 to horn trigger input wire on the car harness
pin 85 to fused 12v
pin 87 to ground

2) you use a fuse connection for the 12v line..
