Hello, I'm installing a alarm/remote starter into a 1998 chevy malibu. When I first installed it, the remote starter worked. The next day I tried to use it but it kept turning off. It will start, keep running, and then shut off. The R/S will then try to start the car again( it tries will try 3 times). I'm using a DEI 555L to bypass the PassLock II, and I believe all the wires are connected correctly. I believe that the anti-theft bypass is working correctly, because the car doesn't sound like it's dying due to lack of fuel. I also tried to solve the problem by connecting the tach wire. When I connected the tach wire it did the same thing(started, kept running, then shut off). It just sounded a little different when it started. When it shuts off the R/S module makes a clicking sound, like a relays being switched. I've also checked the ACC,IGN, and Starter wires while the R/S is doing it's thing. The Remote start first puts +12V to the IGN outputs, then the Starter output, then the ACC output. When I hear the clicking, It stops putting power to the ACC output. My best guess is that for some reason the R/S doesn't think the car is running and shuts itself off. The alarm/Remote I'm using is a Metric Audio product. I bought it off ebay for cheap. Maybe that's my problem. If you have any thoughts at all, please tell me.

you should either have a vss or tach wire hooked up or it will shut down because i doesnt know if it has started or not. But if it starting up and then like 2-5 seconds later shuttind down it is probably due to passlock failure. If so its probably you module. I would replace it or just hardwire passlock. Thats what i prefer ive had two many modules, or bypas kits go bad to even worry about hooking them up. To hardwire it your gonna need to find your two passlock wires usually black, yellow. but maybe orange when you get those one is the com wire while the other sends the resistor value you need to cut the resistor value wire and meter the resistance from the black wire to the key side of the yellow wire. then get that resister value and connect it to the black wire without completely cutting the black wire and then connecting the other side of the resistor to the car side of the yellow wire.
To test if it's a tach issue or a Passlock do this:
Start the car with the key and press the start button again on the remote start remote FOB. This should allow you to have the car still running after you remove the key from the ignition.( this is most common for alot of remote starts ). If the car stays running and all functions are still operational ( except radio, wiper, etc ), then it's a Passlock II issue. If the car dies on you after you remove the key, then it's a tach issue. Fix the tach issue by programming the tach to the remote start and then after you are done, try this again. If it keeps running after the programming, then try to remote start the car. If you still get a no start or start, then it sies, then it's a Passlock issue.
Try to reprogram the Passlock module and then make sure that you are getting a good ground from the remotestart to turn on the bypass module. The main reason for module failure is that the ground when running wire is not sufficient and doesn't aloow the bypass module to properly bypass the Passlock system.
