Today i put in a add on remote start. It already had a viper alarm installed, when i dont know. I notice that the starter kill realy was hook up in a way i never seen before. what was odd was pin 86 did not go to ingition instead there was
a diode goiing form pin 86 to pin 30. everthhing eles was normaal.
Any one wireed up one this way. The ingition form alarm wen tto the fuse box.

Thats how all mine are. I use three wire pre-wired harnesses.

Nothing abnormal about that. Instead of using the ingition to trigger the starter kill it uses the starter wire itself.

Forgot to mention, this type of starter kill is directional. So make sure the wire that the diode is on goes to the key side of the starter wire.

Is tere a tool to take the wires out of the relay. i dont have any handy to play around with.

3 wire starter kills break the transmission (and can throw a check engine light) on '98 - '02 Accords, at least when used in a remote start.

I've actually seen it happen-- the Accord uses the starter wire for two things (other than starting a car)-- it sends 5 volts when the car is in gear, and it expects to see a certain resistance on the starter wire during starts.

3 wire starter kills (specifically, the fact that you're directing some of the starter wire current into ground when running) ruin this reference value...

Also, if you're not careful about diodes, the ground when running (which turns into 12V when not running) can send enough of a signal to kill the 5V "in-gear" reference.

I've seen both things happen-- car came into our shop fine, went out broken. Customer replaced tranny-- we assumed it had just been an unfortunate coincidence (because the customer hadn't noticed the tranny problems for a few days). We rehooked up his R/S-- same problem came right back (D4 light flashing and on while driving, even when not in gear), and the tranny starting having hard clunky shifts.

3 days later, our chain's in-house wiring information database had a warning about these cars. posted_image
