I know this subject has been hashed before with "Rovari" in 2002 but I did not get an answer that solves my problem.
I installed the Design-tech Intl. remote starter and the "Directed Immobilizer Bypass Module" (my spare key is now inside that box). Long story short,, after 3 days messing with this I can get the car to crank but not start. If I insert the key in the ignition in the off position, it will start. This led me to believe the "bypass module" was faulty so it was exchanged but still no go.
Documentation is really poor with the "module" but it emphasizes that the "loop" must be in front of the ignition switch. I assume it just loops over the switch since there is no other way to mount it. The "Directed" web site is no help whatsoever.
The only other thing I gleaned from the discussion with Rovari is that the Tach. wire should be connected even though "Design-tech" says it isn't necessary.....but it starts with the key in the off position.... so I keep coming back to the transponder key as the problem...
Can anyone offer any suggestions???
Thanks for the info:
If you are familiar with the 556U, it comes with a fixed loop that is just larger than the switch cylinder so I taped it to the cylinder and placed the plastic trim over that. Maybe I should have coiled the lead wire over the cylinder a few times,,,
The transponder is always powered since it is wired to a constant +12v battery source.
After three days messing with this, I had to tuck all the wires away and give the car back to my Daughter so she could return to work in another State. I am hoping to get some definite answers from "Design-Tech" or "Directed Electronics" or "Pep-Boys" before she returns home for a couple of days in January. So far, you have been most helpful and I appreciate that.
