I'm looking for a remote start from a manual trans. I see that scytek makes one. It seems as though they are a pretty good unit for the price. I have also read about compustar. They seem like a good unit. I am going to install my self along with power door locks. Does compustar

I just installed a Compustar 2wss-as on my Nissan 350 because it is completely set-up for manual transmissions. I'm waiting for my key bypass which will be in this week. It works when I leave a key in it so far. You must exit the car while it's still running before it will allow it to be restarted. It's really weird turning off the key and getting out with the car still running. As soon as  the last door is closed, it shuts off the car. I'm very happy with the alarm and the range is truly insane. Nice remote display but it is a little bigger then some other alarms. Install instructions are not very good but with a car wiring diagram you should survive. Don't know about Scytek. Good Luck

The Compustar line has been a great seller for us this year with 100 % operating units ( 0 returns from customer's ). The only thing is that if you decide to install this yourself, Compustar doesn't warranty the unit due to uncertainty of the installer. Most companies will not warranty their products if DIY installer's install their product ( DEI, Xtant, Compustar, etc... ). All of the starter's that Compustar offers is both manual and automatic safe with an almost automatic READY MODE for the user. I suggest the 8000 FM or the 900FM series units for your vehicle if you decide to go with Compustar.

Could someone describe the process for remote starting with Compustar?  I know the process with an Ultrastart is pretty cumbersome.  And you have to remote start the car if you forgot something.  If you don't remote start it goes out of Reservation mode and you can't remote start.

If you want to know why. It's called LIABILITY.

Any manual unit will work the same way as your Ultrastart unit. If you forget something on the remote start sequence the remote starter will fail. If you want none of that nonsense, put an automatic unit in for your manual tranmission car. However, it will come at a very high price if someone gets hurt. I don't suggest anyone to used an automatic unit in a manual tranmission car just for their convenience unless you have a family that are in the legal service.

I think compustar must be about the best out there. I don't think I've read anything bad about them. I would buy one if I could get one at a reasonable price. More companies should have a manual mode in all their units. Is thier places one the net where I could buy one?

thanks for the info guys

Depends on the year, make and model of the vehicle.

What happens if you unlock the truck, get something out, then re-arm the alarm... Will the remote start not work at this point?

Nope, the ready mode will be cancelled. It monitors for the doors and if open after ready mode is active, then it will cancel the ready mode. You have to get back into the car and go through the sequence again.

That seems like kind of a pain in the arse, but I can see why it's that way, covers the alarm companies butt.

Velocity Motors - Are you saying the Compustar can be switched from Manual tranny to Automatic Tranny mode?  That may come in very handy in the future if I have this alarm installed in a different car, or sell it.

There's a jumper wire that allows you to choose between Manual ( UNCUT ) and automatic ( CUT ). Once cut though the system is set for automatic and if you decide to reconnect the jumper wire, then warranty is void.

Way2-

The reserve mode for my Compustar 2wss-as sequence is: Stop car, place in neutral, release brake, apply parking brake (doors will unlock at this point) turn off ignition and remove key (car will still be running) exit vehicle and close doors. Car will shut immediately. Not to different from norm except you release brake before applying parking brake. I love my alarm.

I just installed the 2w900fmr on my civic.  I love it.  I really just wanted a 2 way remote start with great distance for a manual.  And I got what I wanted.  I parked in row 'n' at school yesterday, and I started it from inside (thick brick walls).  You get used to the way it shuts off too.  I got mine for 220 shipped on ebay.  I think their name was something like Greatdeals4u.  I'm very happy with mine.  The one problem I had, the next morning after i installed it, I tried to remote start it, and it kept cranking.  I just started it with the key, let it run for a while, and reprogrammed the tach.  Good luck with the install!
