I am installing a DEI alarm in my 01 grand am, which has a single wire negative trigger door lock/unlock switch, i have tried everything suggested on this website and a few others, none of which has worked so far. If i connect the negative lock wire it will work, if I add the negative unlock with a resistor then neither wll work, or if i connect just the  negative unlock wire with the resistor, it will work, but they will not work together. I tried a relay, no luck, so if anyone can help id be very greatful.

Thanks

the lock wire is 1500ohms through negative trigger.

lock wire from the brain to 86 on relay
85 gets 12 volts
87 gets ground
30 gets resistor and goes to your white wire for the locks

unlock wire from the brain to 86 on another relay
85 gets 12 volts
87 gets ground
30 goes to the white wire for your locks.

take the two wires you now have running to your white wire in the kick panel connect the wire that has the resistor in it to your white wire, now connect your other wire(unlock) to the side of the resistore that will only trigger with a ground pulse. in other words if you try the keyless entry and still the lock function only works put your unlock from the relay on the other side of the resistor. i wish i could give you a diagram it would be so much simpler.

hope i could help.

Thanks for the info, I will have to give that a shot. Its definitely not something i have tried already. I'll Let you know if it works, it might be a day or two before i get back to you on that though, im kinda strapped for time these days.

Also I am having a little trouble finding the Tach wire, the few wiring diagrams i have say it should be a white wire on the top of the engine, is there any other place it should be?

Thanks Again

The tach wire is either white or PURPLE / white.  If you find the coil pack (it should be on top, center of the engine, back by the firewall), there should be two harnesses that plug into it.  The larger of the two harnesses should have the wire you are looking for.

You can grab the tach wire inside the vehicle as well. PURPLE / WHITE  under the BCM on driver's side kick panel.

You guys all kick ass thanks, one other question though. What do the passlock 2 wire colors represent. I have found the three i need, black white yellow. now what do i connect them to? I already bought the DEI 55L bypass module, but they dont tell me what my vehicles wire colors represent. Believe it or not i bought A wire diagram cd from www.12voltresource.com which doesnt say jack about the pass lock wires in my vehicle, just gives a rough overview of the system itself.  The cd also states that my accessory wire should be orange but after testing it with the multi meter it turns out that the orange wire doesnt  show any volts when the key is turned to the ACC position, only the run position. The dark green wire however shows 12 volts when in ACC position. So is the orange wire my second ignition then , I have 2 pink wires and 2 orange wires, both colors i believe are ignition but am not sure. Any information is much appreciated

Thanks

No luck on the relay job. I even downloaded a DEI diagram that explained it, but still does not want top cooperate. If anybody has installed on a late model grand am lateley let me know how to do this, its driving me nuts!!!!

Ok guess what, The relays actually did do the job, i just couldnt tell last night cause i was sitting in the drivers seat with the door open. Apparantly the alarm wont trigger the lock button if the door is open. What a pain in the ass. Oh well, at least its done now. thanks everybody for you input.

and now im off to the pub
