I can't get this to work. Everything is correct according to instructions. The car doesn't have a chip in the key or a security system. The second starter relay is installed except for the wire from #85 connection. The instructions from Directed on this is very vague and you can no longer call their technical assistance line. This has been very frustrating. Please help!

I did my 04 Caravan. What seems to be the problem?

I can't figure out where #85 wire goes. the diagram shows it connecting to nthe violet wire in the ribbon cable but these are for an 02 van.

The wiring diagrams I used were from the 01 Caravan. They are the same from 01 through at least 04. I think 05 as well. Try this for the second relay

Ignition 3 would be the ground out when running. Hope that helps.

I did try this before and the remote still didn't work, but when I turned the ignition to on, not to the start position, the car would start.

My wiring diagram shows #30 to the purple brown ignition wire, #86 to 12 volts, #87 thru resistor to ground and #85 To a violet wire that I don't know where it is.

When i do my 2nd starter relay, i connect things a bit differently.

pin 85    purple starter wire on ribbon cable (or 2nd start wire on additional plug
pin 86    12v+ connection
pin 87a   not used
pin 87 to ground through 180 ohm resistor
pin 30 to 2nd starter wire in caravan

any questions?

That violet is a seperate connector and will show a negative during crank.
Use the other ideas here as they are all good.

you're right. when r/s'd that thin guage purple wire will go to ground when cranking (just like the diagram above), thats why you put it on either pin 85 or 86 (either/or unless you have a supression diode across 85-86). the opposite pin, you're going to want to connect to 12v+. the reason for this is, when the r/s is physically cranking the starter, the relay will turn ON.

i just did a boa 165 on a '03 impala earlier today. the boa doesn't have any ribbon cable anyway, so you'll need to find another source for the relay to turn on/off. what i'd do is

pin 85: connect to purple 12V+ starter wire
pin 86: connect to ground
pin 87: to ground through 180 ohm resistor
pin 30: connect to negative triggered 2nd starter wire.
