Subject: Horn Honking with remote start, 99 Jeep
Date Posted: January 27, 2005 at 10:24 AM

I installed a DEI Valet alarm on my wifes 99 Jeep GC with both interfaces, door lock and VATS system. Now the horn honks when I remote start it. It is really aggravating. Also I cannot figure out how to get the parking lights to stay on when remote started. The way I had it, they just flashed.
any help

what is the model of the alarm ? The horn honk and parking lights are programmable options on certain alarms. Did you look through the install manual to see if they can be changed ?

You can change the parking lights to constant in the install programming. As far as the honk goes.... is it one honk, then start? Does it do it only when armed by the factory remote, or locked by the starter?

Depending on the bypass module used, the horn honk is connected to the programmable options on the modules ( if connected ). Did yo8u connect the horn wire to anywhere on the DEI unit or the modules ?

If the installer did not hook up the door lock he also probably didn't disarm the factory alarm of the vehicule. Ther is how to check lock the vehicule using the Jeep factory remote. Wait a full minute. Then , remote start . Does the horn honk ?..   Test 2.....

Unlock the door and do not arm the factory alarm of the vehicule. Wait a Full minute. Remote start ......

If in the first test the horn honk and in the second the horn remain silent that mean that the installer is disarming the alarm with the transponder and the ignition wich is causing a timing problem sometimes ..

Must disarm before remote start.

If the horn honks when you lock it with the factory remote it  will honk when its remote started because the remote starter locks the doors when u start it with the remote.  Go to the overhead console and turn off the horn honk when locking the doors.
