Astro Start Brand Bypass Question

I am going to install and Astro 2205U in an '04 F150.  My question relates to the bypass.  Astro start recommends their OM-Ford-3 (Part number 310-907-521).  My question is on the attachment of this unit to the column.  The loop that they give you is in no way big enough to go around the tumbler without cutting it to get it around the big plastic tabs that go around the key.  It is not made of wire, it looks almost like some kind of plastic.  You are supposed to take the adhesive backing off of this thing and it is supposed to glue to the inside of the column, under the tumbler.  Has anyone ever cut one of these things?  I don't want to cut it to get it on and then find out doing so wrecks it.  I would assume there is some type of internal metal trace that goes inside it to transmit the transponder signal and if I just make sure that I put the ends back together it will be fine, but this bypass is about $50 and I would hate to wreck it and then have to buy another one.

The ring on the om-ford-3 will fit ....ya need to take the key cylinder out of the column. Take the column shroud off first, to expose the column.

With the key IN, turn the switch, look under it, youll see a little looks like a push button. Push that is CAREFULLY. youll then be able to turn the cylinder rite out of the column. slid the ring on the cylinder and put it back in the column   

DONT CUT THE RING.... there are a bunch of very fine wires in it....very fine.

I actually work in an auto parts store part time.  I tried to get us to be able to distribute these things.  But, our local distributor told me that we have too many dealers for Astroflex in our town so he wouldn't sell them to us.  I was willing to go to their classes or whatever else it took to be able to buy them, but they wouldn't even talk to me.  In the mean time, they have set up three other full time installers in my home town.  I think it was just due to the fact that they didn't want to mess with someone that wasn't doing it for a living.  However, that being said, another store in the chain that I work for is and authorized distributor.  I just buy the units from them and go around having to go through that warehouse.  It is a little more of a hassle, but I am willing to go through it to get a quality product.  The only down side to it is I don't really have the accessability to Astro's tech support as I am not an "authorized" distributor.  I have put in about 10 of the 2205's this winter.  They have been a good unit for me.  I like them a lot better than the 4204 and the 5204.  The remote seems to be quite a bit more durable.  Anyway, thanks for the feedback.  I was really nervous about cutting it, but didn't see another way to do it.  I figured the tumbler in this thing would be something that you would have to pull the wheel to get out, so I didn't even bother to try that option.  Where is this button?  Is it on the top?  I guess I can find it, I just thought if you had a little more info, that would make it easier.  Thanks again!

Its on the bottom side of the cylinder. When you get it out...the key must stay in the removed cylinder...K

get the ring on the thing and re-install the cylinder ASAP....Its just kinda scary for me anyways...GOOD LUCK

We just use a pick tool and turn the key in the ignitioncylender all the way to the run position not start but run... then you should be able to push this lil ball bearing out... You don't NEED TO remove the steering wheel shroud it makes the install time about 10-20 mins longer but it might be a LITTLE less hastle... all you wanna do is take the sticky paper off and stick the om-ford3 coil to the factory black plastic coil ring... I don't worry about putting the key right back in... But since you pulled it out with the vehicle in the run position all of your accessories will now be on until you shut the key off so if you don't do it in a timely manner you could drain the battery... I LOVE ASTROFLEX PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
