Hello All,

Heres the scoop.  I have a DEI 562T that I just installed in a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4.    I have everything working except the unlock.  I used the wiring diagram provided at this site.  I hooked the blue wire (+ lock/- unlock) to the pink/purple wire and the green wire (- lock/ + unlock) to the ORANGE / purple wire.  When they are connected like this, neither lock nor unlock work, but if i lift the green wire, then lock works.  If I connect the green wire and lift the blue wire, nothing works either.  I put a meter on the wires and both the blue and green are pulsing 12v.  What am I missing here (other than some hair that I've pulled out today)?  Do I need a diode or a relay?  I thought according to the diagram, the Ram uses a 5 wire positive.  I'm not that experienced with remote keyless so any help would be appreciate.

Thanks!
John

Did you ever get this fixed?

Hello Boomer,

My spam blocker blocked your response so I just got it today.  I haven't got it fixed yet.  Do you think if I just wired a relay to ground so that the 12v from the 562 toggles the relay and applies ground to the unlocker, it will work?  It's a pain in the arse to pull the truck apart to get to these wires so I want to get a few ideas before I dig back in.

Thanks,
John

Hey John the diagram I see says its reverse polarity for unlock. Positive trigger for lock.  What do you mean when you say I "lift" the wire? You mean you just lift it up with your finger or am I missing your point? From what the diagram is saying you would need to get into the driver kick panel for the wires. You would wire the unlock wire from the DEI for reverse polarity. You would wire the lock wire as a positive trigger. I think I would start by doing the lock portion since  its pretty simple. After hooking up the pos lock wire try it out and see if it locks the doors for you. Then with that out of the way attack the unlock portion. The relay page here under door locks shows you how to wire the 5 wire reversal for your unlock. I am including the diagram for your truck so you can read what I am seeing. Let me know how you make out. Good luck    Also here is the relay page link.  https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#5w

Hello again Boomer,

When I say "lift" I just mean disconnect.  Sorry.  I'm an electronics technician, but mostly in the marine field and very little experience with vehicles.  My DEI has two wires for the keyless entry.  It has the blue wire (+ lock/- unlock)  and the green wire (- lock/ + unlock).  Does that mean I use the same wire for both the lock and unlock depending on what type of system I have?  Do you know off the top of your head if that means that the blue wire pulses positive 12v if I lock and negative 12v if I unlock and the green wire is vice-versa?  If your not sure, I guess I can just put my meter on it and check.  Thanks for your help on this.

John

Well, I just checked and both of the outputs (blue and green wires) are pulsing +12v.  Green ouputs +12v for unlock and Blue outputs +12v for lock and neither do anything as far as a -12v ouput.  I guess I have to figure out how to make my DEI ouput a -12v pulse for unlock huh?

Hey John, I think all you need to do is go ahead and wire your lock up straight.   For unlock since you say it's outputting +12 volts for unlock is run that wire to terminal 86 of a relay. Hook terminal 85 to ground. This will operate the coil of the relay. If you look at the relay link I provided you will see that this is just the opposite of what it has on terminals 85 and 86. This is because if you notice on there it says terminal 86 to alarm - output. (You say the alarm is outputting +12) So I simply reverse the polarity of terminal 85 and the coil should operate. I would connect the rest up just like the relay has and that should do it. https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#5w

Thanks Boomer,

I'll get a relay and try it.  I'll let you know what I figure out.

Hey Boomer,

I got a DEI 451 relay and wired that baby in there and now it's working just like it's supposed to.  Imagine that.  I guess the whole problem was that the guy at the site I bought it from said that the 562T alone does everything you need so I figured I was doing something wrong and not that I needed more parts.  I appreciate your help.  Guys like you sure help out guys like me.  If your ever wiring up a radar or satellite communications system, give me a shout.  That's more up my alley....  haha  Talk to you later.

John

Hey John thanks for the update. I'm glad you got it. It's good to know I wasn't typing for nothing. If I ever do a radar or satellite communications system I will have to give ya a shout cause I don't think I'd have a clue.   Boomer
