I installed a Prestige APS-685 in my 2002 chev silverado and it works great!!  My only problem is when I unlock my doors with the remote start if I don't hold down the unlock button long enough I try it again and it sets of the factory security system.  I has to be the factory system and not the car finder mode of the remote start unit because the lights flash and the horn sounds.  I did not hook up the horn wire for the remote start because I did not want the horn sounding every time I start my pickup or every time I lock or unlock my doors.

Any Idea's ?

yes you need to tap the factory disarm wire which is lt.green @ the bcm under the steering column. its in the right plug  top row 3 from the right.

You will need to split your (-) unlock output from your alarm into 2 and place a diode in each of the 2 wires. The cathode (stripe side) will need to face your alarm. One wire will remain connected to your unlock circuit and the other will need to be tapped into the wire that securinu mentioned at the BCM. The wire you want should be located in the violet connector at the BCM. Hope this helps.

the 685  should have a factory disarm wire just tap it directly. the BLACK/ blue on aux plug should do the trick you can go here for a diagram.

But why would just unlocking my doors set the factory security system  sometimes and not all the time?  When I hooked up my remote start I thaught it would act just like the factory keyless entry and the security would engage when the doors lock and disengage when the doors unlock whether I use the factory keyless or the remote start keyless.  If I do need to hook up a diode, do I need any special type?

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

it might be that the door or domelight is still on when you lock which arms the factory system but if the light is out it wont arm. and blue/black can be hooked up direct  if you use the unlock you will need (2) 1 amp diodes.

Yep. I wasn't sure if that alarm had a dedicated disarm output so I went the "safe" route. Like securinu suggested, it is most likely a timing issue. You are probably not always meeting all of the requirements to arm the factory system everytime you exit the vehicle. If you go with the diodes, they will be marked IN4001 or IN4002 (1 or 2 amp respectively). Good luck!

Will I need to use a relay?  My factory disarm wire is only a 300mA ground for 1.5 seconds before start and the unlocking sequence.

Also. why do I need to use a diode?  I just like to know why

You only need to use a diode if you do not have a dedicated disarm wire but since you do, it'll just be a straight connection. You won't need a relay, 300mA is plenty of current to  deactivate the alarm. It's just tripping a transistor at worst.

Also, when I hooked up my remote start unit the vilot wire gets hooked up to the accessery wire on the pickup.  After I was done and the pickup started and ran I realized that the blower motor didn't work. My wireing diagram said there was a HVAC wire so I tapped it into my ignition 2 wire from the remote start unit because the ignition 2 wire on the pickup was just a small (16 gauge?) wire and the ignition 2 wire on the remote starter was a big(12 gauge?) wire thinking that it should cary the load.  Should I have hooked up the HVAC wire on the pickup to the accessery wire of the remote starter or should it be OK the way it is?

It'll be fine the way it is as long as you also have the white (small) ignition wire connected. It powers up the transmission computer. If it is not connected, it can cause shifting problems and transmission damage. If it's not connected, use your ignition 2 output for this wire and use your accessory output for the orange HVAC wire. Your truck's accessory circuit is not required for remote starting/HVAC. Essentially, it powers your radio and wipers. This should get you up and running like a champ. hope this helps.

Ok,  here we go again.  I hooked up the pulsed grounds for disarming the facotory security system and the door trigger for the radio to quite when I turn off the pickup with the remote starter but now if I lock my doors with the door switch ( getting out of the pickup and closeing the door) I have to push my unlock button twice inorder for the doors to unlock.  If I lock my doors with the remote and then push unlock it unlocks the doors on the first push.

Do I need to use diodes anyway?
