I was referred to this site so this is my first post. Here goes:

What I want to do is remove the lock pins and rods in my Ford Ranger and replace them with a LED that would change from Red to Green depending on if the doors were locked or not. I've seen this done before but have no clue how I would go about doing it. I'm sure someone here will be able to chime in. Thanks

Nope. The alarm is all factory.

you would need to use a latching relay.... unless you have an aftermarket system

And how exactly would I go about doing that.

you would have to use the lock wires to trigger the relay. you will need:

1 latching relay

2 diodes

2 12v LEDs

ok....

pin 30 on the relay... that would go to +12v constant (something that is always on).

pin 85 on the relay.... that would go to ground

pin 86 on the relay.... that would go to the lock wires but you have to diode isolate them (diodes are like a one way gate... this is very important because if you do not use them... when you lock or unlock, both wire is then get 12v and thats not good !

pin 87 on the relay.... that would go to the + side of the 12v LED

pin 87a on the relay.... that would go to the + side of the other 12v LED

i would imagine that the relay will start off on 87a so if you working on the car then the drivers door will be unlock  then the led that you hook up to 87 will be the lock color..... the only problem with the way this is wired is that if you hit lock 2 times then the LED will show that it is unlocked..... i will think about it in more depth if your not to crazy about that, but thats what comes into mind at first.
