I am installing the compustar cm3300 into this suburban. This will crank  with the remote start but will not run. The security light flashes right away. Runs ok with key in ignition. I am using the GMDL interphase. I was told it will do locks and passlock. The compustar has a tach learn on the module and it does not indicate any problem. I tried using the wire off coil #1. Also, the installation diagram does not specify a tach wire but has an engine sensing wire.  I assume this is to be used for the tach signal. Any ideas?

Thanks Rick

Here is the instruction I see for Tach. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is in the left front of the engine compartment to the left of the fan shroud. The tach wire is in the green plug, pin 10.
For tach can also go to any of the ignition coils or injectors and use the wire that is NOT pink, black, or brown.

Did you maybe hook to pink, black, or brown?

I dont think you have a tach issue....I feel its most likely with the passlock. If you have done your tach in any of the ways described in the post from boomer, your good. Check the passlock override. I have never used a GMDL, so I cant make any other suggestions (I use only astroflex products)

Does this part "learn" or do you program it. Does it also control the factory alarm?

I used the purple wire from coil #1 for my tach signal. This GMDL is supposed to learn the passlock. I believe this is a passlock issue. Does anyone know of a better interphase capable of doors and passlock available ( perhaps from STAUB or DEI )?

If you go dei you need a 555L and a 456G. Staub I am not sure of.

Probably need to tinker with the mode settings more. It may not be set for Passlock 2 even though other functions work fine. Try reprogramming the unit and give the tech line a call. They have always figured out my issues pretty quickly.

you are using a GMDL and not a GMDLBP? The BP stands for BYPASS, the important part of the equation...

The GMDL-BP is the one to use on this truck. It does everything and is simple to install.. Also the Crimestopper GM-U.7 is a good choice and there is no programming to it.. it adjusts for all the platforms in these GM vehicles..

The GMDL only does DOOR LOCK interface. You need to purcahse the GMBP if you already have the GMDL. I don't like using the GMDLBP on newer GM's cause of interface problems.

Will the GMDAA function the same as GMDLBP for the passlock?

your best interface to use is a crimestopper GMU-7 it self programs off the data link wire the best place to catch tach is behind the instrument cluster it's the only white wire coming out of the plug in the back of the cluster just remove the 4 7mm screws on each corner of the cluster and pull it towards u

You could use the new dei 457g it works off data. We have had good luck with this module. I agree with audiopro i always get the tach behind cluster white wire never a problem.

457G=GMDAA=GMU7

they're all the same module.

I prefer using the GMDAA over the GMDLBP because it'll activate heated seats on the trucks.

But my shop only sells the GMDLBPs, so I stock the GMDAA"s for my chevy dealer jobs.
