I am going to be installing a 2 way fm remote start system on this vehicle. I was wondering if anyone had tips or any info on this install. It is my friends vehicle and he will only be in town over a weekend. Just doing some research so it will go smoothly. The alarm is a crimestopper unit. I have got all the wire info off of the web site but i need to know about the factory alarm(if any)It does have keyless entry. Also if there is any type of antitheft system to bypass. NOTE: This vehicle has the passlock II immobilizer system that, when adding a remote start, must be interfaced with.. *1 Required for remote start operation. *2 The 4 door versions are positive trigger, and the 2 door versions are 5-wire. *3 Also found low in the drivers kick panel. *4 Positive trigger on models with rear lift window, and 5 wire on models with cargo doors. *5 ECM is located on drivers side inner fender. Tach wire found in a black plug marked 'white'. *6 Diesel wait to start wire is dk. blue (-) located at the instrument cluster.

No you do not need this connection to be installed.

O.K just one more question. In the info that I have for bypassing the passlock 2 system,they show a relay being used to input the resisters value to the computer. the resistior comes to pin 87 from one of the 22awg wires. The other 22awg wire is cut and placed on 87a and 30. pin 85 goes to ground and pin 86 is turned on by the ignition output from the remote starter. (right?) In my info it says that the ignition wire from the remote starter must be isolated from the vehicles ignition. Does that mean that you must use a diode here? If so then what size? Pin 85 is not a ground, rather a GROUND OUT WHEN RUNNING> If you connect this to a straight GROUND then the relay will never turn off. None of the information taht I have says to isolate the ignition wire. You will need a diode on the first relay with cathode band facing the RS unit.

I see what you are saying Jeff. The info I was looking at was for 96 to 97 system that had the resistior in the key. This system has the resistior in the key cylinder. Thats where the ground came from. All I need to know now is about the diode. What size and where do you connect this wire to in the vehicle? The door locks in this vehicle are positive. I can use two relays to invert the polarity.(right) One for lock and the other for unlock. thanks for all of your help. BrianH
Use a 1 amp diode. A 1N4001 should do the trick. Go and buy a package of multiple amperage diodes incase the 1 amp is not sufficient.
