Voltage sense does not trigger alarm when door is opened but only when the door is shut. What is wrong? If I arm the alarm, wait about 15 seconds, then open the door, it will chirp rapidly a few times but wont set off. The dome lamp does come on when the door is opened, but as soon as the door is closed the alarm is set off? I'm stumped

Sounds like the chirping a few times is the pre-warn. Then slamming the door triggers the full shock sensor. I can't find any info so this is just a guess. Try slowly opening and closing door to verify that it is/ is not the shock sensor.

The current draw might not be high enough (probably isn't) to trigger the alarm. I imagine you'll find that if you leaned into the window with the system armed and put the key to acc or ign then it would trigger the alarm.

Sorry to say you might want to scout ebay and pick up a normal simple alarm, it might add the ability to open door locks (if installed at the factory) or you could buy the door lock motors (www.parts-express.com) for pretty cheap and install them yourself. Asking questions here as you go.
