Ok so today I was trying to install an LED scanner in a friend's car. He had a viper 790xv installed at the local audio shop, and recently we added power locks to his car (03 Jeep wrangler).

I had everything hooked up. The scanner had 3 wires, power, ground, and trigger (negative). So I checked the 790xv install manual off viper's website to find the Negative armed output. It showed that the orange wire on the main harness would show ground when armed, nothing when unarmed. It also showed that this wire ran the ignition kill relay. But when we hooked the scanner up, and used this wire as the trigger, the scanner was constantly on. So I got frustrated and pulled out the multimeter, and it turns out the orange wire on the main harness showed ground regardless of the alarm's armed state? But we were still able to turn the car on with the key with the system unarmed?

Cliff Notes: Orange wire in main harness on 790xv showing ground regardless of the alarm's state (armed/unarmed).

Anyone have this problem before? I guess last resort would be to hook up the scanner to the igntion wires, but I'd rather have it hooked up to the alarm, kind of like a reminded to say "hey, I'm armed".

Anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Let me guess, starter kill is hooked up huh? You need to place a diode inline ,stripe towards alarm, and tie the led in between the alarm and diode.
