Hi, I just puchased a CompuStart 3000. I want to install this in my 04 Explorer, I'm thinking of installing the remote start portion only , and rely on the factory security system, just to avoid any confussion since my wife drives this vehicle.

Is this recommend? should I use any part of the security portion of this system? and , what connection are necessary? Your help would be appreciated.

Use the entire alarm/RS. What level of security experience do you have?

The only problem with just hooking up the remote start only is that the alarm system is usually tied into the remote start so you would need to hook up most of the wires on the alarm up as well. You could leave the alarm trigger wires and door locks off if you wanted to, but it sounds like you may be paying more money than what its worth. If you just want a remote start, there are plenty of just remote start systems out there.

You can install everything on the Compustar and still have the OEM security intact. If your worried about loosing the OEM functions when installing the Compustar... don't because your just piggy backing all the wires and all OEM functions remain the same. This also saves carrying around two remote controls.
